Ethereal Knives Low-HP High DPS build - Easy to Understand for New Players!(In-Depth)(VIDEO)(Fun SC)

hey guys, im playin EK shadow, im 78 lvl now, my Ek is about 4500 dps without curse per projectile

-> Life + Mana leech for better sustain, added fire dmg for dmg and projectiles also for dmg

This is my bear trap

With this link, bear trap is like 14 500 dmg i can switch quantity for added fire dmg which will increase my dmg to 18 500 !

im want to get 6l chest to connect EK with iron will, for more dmg. Rathpith + Lazhwar are for dmg + mana.

I use a lot of auras, i have permanently on Hatred + Determination, the rest of auras depends on situation. Im also using molten shell ( 6k dps + a high amout of armour)

As curse, im using Projectile Weaknes, thats just need for my build.

Bear trap should be support with added fire and culling strike

Etheral Knives has way better 5L combinations

bear trap already kills rares/uniques in 1-3 hits, and ALWAYS does more than 10% of the mob's life, so insta kill on 10% life is fairly useless

and yes, I don't have enough currency to roll the colours of my socks on my 5L
ideally for a 5L I want faster projectiles, life leech, mana leech, and then the last one doesn't matter too much, it could be one of many different supports to give more damage.
likely faster casting, fork, crit chance or crit multiplier.

If you'd prefer otherwise I'd like to hear your reasoning

what do you use on the offhand? does dual rusted sword work?

I've tried it, it is possible to dual wield red beaks, however the +100% damage of the second red beak is reduced to +50%.
If I'm in no major danger, or a map is particularly easy, I'll dual wield, otherwise I use a shield that gives ES, I would link it but its just a regular old rare shield, I have yet to find one with good stats, likewise with most of my items.

I'd also like to thank Jack for making this very thorough explanation thread!
So, how are you going to deal with physical reflect mobs, commonly acknowledged as the biggest weak point of EK? Are you just going to skip every physical reflect pack?

Also I would point out that this build is in no way actually friendly to the new player. Putting "easy to understand for new players" in the title is misleading. It is easy enough to understand, but asking new players to acquire 4 uniques is certainly not newbie friendly. The only unique that can be considered easy to acquire would be redbeak which requires 15 reward points from racing. Also, being a low survivability build is not newbie friendly, as new players need more leeway to make mistakes. Even in the video you posted, the person nearly died a few times in fellshrine, which is supposed to be an easy farming spot.

This build also has the significant weakness of making use of the low life mechanic, but being unable to use chaos inoculation due to it. Chaos damage will just go through your energy shield and one shot you. This is very limiting. As you have such a small amount of life even 75% chaos resist (which isnt easy to get) will not help you.

While this build might do well at lower levels, this trend certainly will not hold in maps, which test your build's flexibility and ability to handle different challenges thrown at you.

Bear Traps for reflect packs, slow and tedious, but it works. As for the rest of it, I agree, which is why I dont use a low-lifer build of EK, I basically grabbed all the health nodes I could get and stack resistances. Running Purity as well Im 76% cold/lightning 50 something Fire in Cruel, so its a little more surv friendly. DPS is still good too.

I really don't see anything wrong with skipping reflect packs. I skip all kinds of sh*t that's too tedious/difficult for my character to kill. It's part of being efficient at the game.
I see you've updated the post.

However, you have not addressed the point that putting "easy to understand for new players" in the title is misleading, as acquiring 4 uniques and having low survivability is not newbie friendly.

Also, heres some math. A level 80 shadow has 531 base hp. Since you have equipped uniques in your boots, gloves and helm slot, the remaining slots that can roll chaos resist are shield, belt, two rings, 1 ammy and the chest. Lets assume you have somehow acquired the perfect gearset with 30% chaos resist on all of them. 30 x 6 = 180 chaos resist, so thats overcap, and you will have 75% chaos resist. With 75% chaos resist, you can only take 2124 worth of chaos damage. You might be able to skip physical reflect packs but you will have to play perfectly against chaos mobs, ie dodging all their projectiles.

While it is reasonable to skip physical reflect packs, when you get to maps this build is going to have problems as you wont be able to do physical reflect maps, blood magic maps, no regen maps, theses 3 are just flat out impossible, you might be able to get away with chaos mobs and half regen in a party, but its very sketchy. Temporal chains will give this build huge headaches as it relies on kiting and quickly regenning energy shield between enemy attacks.

The guide is exactly what the title suggests. Easy to understand for new players.

I see no reason to change it.

Whether they decide to use it is entirely up to them after they read through the guide.

Thanks for this guide. This build is a blast to play, and I only die when I get careless.... Mind you, I'm not in merciless yet, only level 44 so I have yet to, "deal" with reflect mobs. I usually play with a group of friends anyways so they should have it covered.
Just picked up this nugget of gold information from ZiggyD on the best ways to farm rares/uniques:

"Cruel & Merciless Hillock runs. Use the waypoint to refresh the instance and just sprint to hillock. People often use low life farming builds to take advantage of IIR & Movespeed bonuses for this one."

This build would be PERFECT for doing that kind of run on Merciless!
