Donald Trump and US politics

We'll see what happens in a few years. US dropping out should not cause a catastrophic collapse, if everyone else keeps to their promises. And I'm looking forward to China taking the leading role in ecology, human rights and fair wealth re-distribution... yeah :P

What the citizens does to help the environment and what the government does to help the environment aren't mutually exclusive.

If the government takes 100 USD from you every month, for your carbon footprint tax, would you still go out of your way to care about your personal consumption & pollution, or just assume the "damage you cause" is already covered by the tax and you can carry on with your usual life?

Its the difference between personal responsibility and socialized responsibility. Usually when something is socialized (eg. school system), most people feel like they are released from personal responsibility (eg. participating in their kids education).

Note that the gov is also heavily subject to corruption, so that $100 might not achieve anything but lining the pockets of some bureaucrats or "special interests", while you keep on thinking that you actually helped saving the Earth.

I thought Trumpers believe climate change is a hoax. It is possible you would do nothing for the environment. 100 USD tax is 100 USD taken from you for the environment minus all the mooching from the government of course.

PS: Is that how your carbon tax work? We have a viable carbon tax where goods and services that emit more carbon are taxed higher. People who use goods and service with higher carbon footpath will be taxed more. It is suppose to encourage people to reduce their carbon footpath.

I absolutely believe in climate change, as has been happening for as long as Earth has had a climate. I am, however, unconvinced of any significant influence in those megascale climatic cycles by human activity. What I am convinced of is that there is significant socio-economic capital to be reaped by scaring everyone into believing there is, in order to rob them of both wealth and freedom. The transparently nonchalant energy-use behaviors of the AlGores, DiCaprios, and Musks of the world, along with the patently obvious political motives of many of their ilk, should provide sufficient evidence for skepticism of their claims and warnings, at least, for thinking folks. =^[.]^=

Transportation and electricity (which iirc in US is still mostly coal derived?) are the basis of the whole economy, so the tax will translate into higher prices of almost everything.

And the poor will pay a higher ratio vs their actual carbon footprint. Latte commies opposing capitalism on their latest Apple gadget, won't even notice it.

Meanwhile your country is literally willing to go to war over oil. But yeah, it's the "let's push into the next generation of energy tech" -guys who are the baddies. Wouldn't want to break our economic dependancy on the middle eastern oil reserves, would we?

Fucking hilariously tragic.

And if you think we're not capable of impacting our environment in any measurable capacity I guess your just too young or senile to remember the freon fiasco.
You won't get no glory on that side of the hole.

Lol, how could humans not be responsible for major climate change? Yeah, it naturally occurs, but not to the extremes its at now. Are you saying the stuff factories and dairy farms put out isnt causing problems for the planet? Lol.

Have you heard of the medieval micro ice age? Quite extreme. And recent. It was because of?

Definitely human activities contribute to the climate changes, but no one can measure the impact. Unless someone does, it's about speculations, (geo)political tools, greed.

I see this thread is still as entertaining as ever. So when can I order this year's covfefe Christmas ornament?
Ever been in a room with pre-schoolers? One tells a joke (not funny except to them) and they laugh about it FOREVER. It is like the switch in their brains is stuck in hilarity.

That is what this constant covfefe thing reminds me of. I mean even if you thought it was funny at first, when does it look stupid to laugh at the same thing for the next 3 days? 4 days? A year?
Censored.

Wow. Nice non-sequitur. I was talking about anthropogenic global warming, the alarmism over it, and the attempt by some to use that alarm to profit financially and politically. You're talking about international conflict over vital resources (scarcely an American monopoly, and, when the US kicked out Saddam Hussein, we didn't exactly set up shop to "steal" all the Iraqi oil), next generation energy tech (which nobody is outlawing), and freon.

Strawmen, all. Thanks for playing. =9[.]9=
