Donald Trump and US politics

The election is over and the misery of an 18 month campaign season ended last November. Only to be replaced by a new misery. We are faced with a president up to his chin in quicksand of his own making. Most of our divided nation is chanting "Eat your words Donald!" while the rest are saying that the quicksand is fake news.

Trump thinks he is above and beyond the reality of his situation, one way or another the truth is coming. He knows what that is even if we don't. He knows what his financial connections to Russia are. He knows the degree to which his campaign knew about or worked with Russians to help him and hurt Hillary. He knows what will be revealed. There will be no surprises for him and his team. It is the rest of us that will be learning for the first time of his guilt or innocence. What he does now only points to towards that future and he is behaving as if he is guilty.

Hillary's loss is only a win if the nation is better off with Trump rather than her. So far that is not working out.

He has increased the division within the country.
Weakened us in the eyes of our allies and other nations.
And he has fed us a continuous stream of scandal and legislative failure.

We do not know if a Hillary win would have produced a similar result, but it would be difficult to imagine us in a worse situation.

Hillary would have kept Obamas LGBT record intact, further pushed what Obama started on. She would have destroyed Syria even more tho but then again so does Trump. So Hillary would have been better, she was the lesser evil.

Well trump again upped his ante in the game. He reiterated that all the news about him and Russia while he was gone was fake news. Such action only inflames his opponents and feeds the frenzy. It will prolong his ordeal. And because his shouting isn't evidence based, it only looks like more cover up and denial for the sake of denial.

He should have Jared speak out and tell his story under oath to Congress. That will force the left to either put up real evidence (not just leaks) or shut up about it all. Trump and his associates seem to fear the truth which makes everything they do look like a cover up. They do not appear very smart.

Now if in fact all the allegations are true, then they are doomed anyway and they should just come clean. Spare us all the turmoil. In either case, it looks like Trump's ego will be his undoing.

You sure about that mate?

GGG banning all political discussion shortly after getting acquired by China is a weird coincidence.
OMG, I was just watching Indianapolis 500 and the winner, a Japanese minority driver, was forced to drink milk at the end ceremony :O

Behold the Alt-Left flip to Alt-Right and then just to Alt-ernate reality.

This guy was just jack of the pointless bipartisanship. And fucking batshit racist as hell. And raised in America, land of the freely armed, home of the bravely belligerent.

Nice combination.

This is the kind of person the GOP wants to have guns. Totally nuts and totally not capable of owning a gun yet does so because, murica, ma freedom comes with bullets!

Well, he didn't use a gun, but I don't think that was really the point.

Neither the DNC nor the GOP are responsible for this guy. He's symptomatic of a very sick, very unwell society in denial.

Thats true.

Trump is, contrary to your sentiments, supremely inadequate for putting America First because he is the consummate capitalist. And capitalism is and always will be victory at the expense of others.
Under a fully free-market system, any transaction that one party feels is a defeat at their expense cannot exist; if they don't think it's a victory or at least neutral, they don't agree to the transaction. It's a system where only those stupid enough to agree to a defeat can lose.

In contrast, the kind of government-mandated transactions that laissez-faire avoids regularly do have winners and losers. When you're held at gunpoint, that's a pretty solid indicator that you're about to be the loser of an upcoming transaction, regardless of whether that gun is held by a criminal or a cop.

You mean unhappy customers doesn't exist? Care to explain how people who vote for Bernie or Hillary Clinton and got Donald Trump? What you have is oligopolies, reality often doesn't match your perfect competition scenario.
At some point I'm going to make a new thread about how capitalism and corporatism are not only not the same thing, but actually opposites. For now, let me just say that Ayn Rand is well known as a fervent advocate for capitalism, yet every villain, major and minor, in Atlas Shrugged is a corporatist. The clear distinction between capitalism and corporatism has been part of our literature for decades, yet incredibly both major US political parties continue to offer poison as food and poison as antidote by saying the two are equivalent.
