Possible ATI solution (for the majority)

did not work. lost a 50 ranger in a 43 zone thinking that it did

works on my older laptop, however playing with 1gb of ram isnt an option anymore lol

I tried to disinstall the ati drivers and put the latest without installing the CCC (from 12.8 to 13.1). It seems a lot smoother than before; in multiplayer the fps still drops but way less (it was fire effects though so no lightning nor ice spear).
My specs if needed:
Athlon II X4 3ghz - 4 GB ram - AMD Radeon HD 6870 1gb - Win 7 64bit

From which CCC you updated to 13.1? I updated from 12.1 to 13.2b

I'm not sure which one of those worked (or both), but the game is at least playable now.

No change for me, tried without tesselation first (very slight performance increase on 12.8)

Tried OP's suggestion, no change at all (both on max settings(except AA) and lowest settings; pretty much the same max fps but still freezes for a second or two and I wake up dead).


Guess I'll have to detox from my PoE-addiction now, losing 40% xp-to-level in 10 minutes of playtime due to these kinda retracts from the fun the game otherwise brings.

Actually the 6670 is a 1.5 year old, low end card in the sub $100 category and is not meant for gaming. More appropriate for an HTPC. This would explain frame issues with PoE.

I use a HD 6250 APU A6-3420 without any issues and use ccc. I also turn off shadows, turn off post processing, turn ON vsynch, antialiasing quality: 2, texture quality: medium, 4x anisotropic filtering. Also if you tried that ramdisk /fancycache "fix" turn both those programs off and get rid of them that screw up my perfomance to the worst I have ever had. These are my settings:
