Possible ATI solution (for the majority)

didnt work for me either, but ill on my other machine (with lower specs than my current) sometime tomorrow

i really hope GGG can resolve the problems though. i love the game but its just not playable atm

im not willing to spend around £1000 on a high spec comp when my current can run LOTS of other games on full settings in single player or multi player. i am willing to buy extra stash tabs and others from the PoE shop though - aslong as the fps issues get fixed/improvd

BTW OP, I'm thinking of formatting my computer just in case (due to all the hacking) and to increase performance.

If I do this, can I ignore the first few steps of instructions and just start from the installation of the ATI Drivers?

Yea, install the latest package and exclude CCC. try and see if it improves or not.
If it improves for you during those huge fpsdrop moments, awesome.

Also, might mention that im running the client in --softwareaudio (adding that in end of PoE shortcut to the game). that gave me another 5-10 fps in docks.
I do have an SSD drive (so i havent used the virtual ssd/ram solution mention in forums)

There is defiantly gonna be improvements from GGG on matters like this to enhance the gamequality. So using there transaction tab gives them more dollars to do so ^^

Back to the topic
Ive spoke with a few friends of mine who where having similiar issues, 2 of them had nvidia and 5 had ATI. This metod gave them 20+ fps during the "ice-shoot"-test (a group of rangers spamming iceshoots with gmp in docks). i dont say that this will work for all but it might improve the overall fps when it use to be at the worst.
One common factor tho, all have SSD drives and Creative soundcards (using the --softwareaudio) and no one was using a laptop. The load in the game with CCC installed gave them a CPU usage on 50-100% where an installation w/o CCC gave a load of sustained 90-100%.

So. some other things that you can try:
- If your resolution is less then 1920x1080 you put Antialising to '2x' instead of 'trilinear'
- Run the game with '-nosound' in end of the shortcut (rightclick shortcut -> properties -> destination: "x:/x/x/path of exile" -nosound)
- Run the game w/o ccc installed

Let me know if anything helps. these are specific settings that i could locate as a common factor.
There is suppose to be a nice signature picture here

^ well obviously it's difficult for me to tell 100% since I just reformatted my hard disk which may give me a boost in performance, but the game is definitely running better.

It runs at about 50-70 fps (unheard of prior to reformat/uninstall CCC) until my gfx card starts to heat up and then drops down to the 20-30 range. Still getting a few fps spikes. I tried your options settings but these made it far worse, so have gone back to my preferred graphics settings of VSync on and Post Processing off.

May try the sound tweaks you mention, but do you think they are necessary if not using Creative audio? I just have the standard High Definition Audio Device on my laptop.

I tried using the -nosound but it didn't appear to do anything, I still have sound playing on my game?

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Grinding Gear Games\Path of Exile\Client.exe" -nosound

Correct?

--softwareaudio makes most of the commands a little unresponsive, even if it improves the global frame rate.

Too bad.

I have a 6670, most games work perfectly fine. This game just has that new technology, that ATI can't handle.

Actually the 6670 is a 1.5 year old, low end card in the sub $100 category and is not meant for gaming. More appropriate for an HTPC. This would explain frame issues with PoE.

Utter fail. the 6670 gives enormous value for the money. I run this card, too. Battlefield 3 runs at 100 fps in crossfire mode with my A8.

Also I do not have any of the proposed fps issues with PoE. I run windowed mode, low fps (in six man party/poison arrow/summons) is about 38, highest 78. I sometimes dropped to 24 in Docks before the fix, but that is just like any other area now that they optimized it.

My client.exe profile is set to the following:

AA: Off.
AF: 8x, HQ.
Vertical refresh: Off.
Triple buffering: Off.

Edit: Not to mention my six/seven year old 4890 can also run the game just fine. (Although it needs a giant floor fan to keep it from overheating. :P)

What Catalyst version are you using ?

IGN: Cyanyx
Adding this, because its on topic as well: http://community.radeonpro.info/questions/400/settings-for-path-of-exile
Radeonpro is basically a alternativ to Catalyst with features. Anything that would fix a game from CCC would also be replicateable from Radeonpro.
Except you cant control color/ video color/ quality, overclocking and fans with Radeon pro.
