What is Desync? (A thorough explanation)

I wonder if some of the desync is caused by client and server running different seeds for their RNGs and what it might look like if the 'seed' itself is kept in synced.

GGG wanted to make a much more tactical game where the environment could be used to your advantage. A game where funneling enemies through doorways was a viable tactic and where getting surrounded and trapped in a corner become a scary proposition. Where tactical positioning was just as important as the gear on your character. To accomplish this, GGG can't rely on many of the things that I just pointed out that D3 relies to hide desync. As an unfortunate result, PoE is more susceptible to desync and when it does happen it has more significant impact on the player's gameplay.

And that's exactly the kind of playstyle no-one dares to try in this game because what we see on our screens is not relyable. So we-re stuck to stacking life and ES ans spamming AOE skills all over the place.
Absolute Bullshit system implemented by GGG. Most of the civilized world have server pings/latencies below 100ms (that's one tenth of a second server responce time). I myself have a ping less than 50ms. WE DONT NEED GGG SERVERS TO GUESS OUR ACTIONS THAT SO OFTENLY PRODUCE WRONG CALCULATIONS! Such server response times are practically unnoticeable even in very fast-paced action first-person-shooter games.

When I play Diablo 3 with ping 100-200 I see no desync from my side. I care not if the game mechanics hides desync from me or something else happens.

When I play PoE with stable latency around 60( F1 in game) I experience desync every time when I play my marauder, even sometimes several times per minute, it is really annoying and greatly decrease my game experience.

My opinion desync problem in PoE is a great disadvantage at this moment and GGG must bring all efforts to eliminate that!

I really love the game, and I love that it's free to play. But I am finding it hard to respect (yet ultimately do) a company that isn't working to fix a glaring problem that makes the game very frustrating to play. I never noticed or really experienced serious desyncing until recently. Me spending a few bucks to by some stash space wasn't a problem, it's people who spent over a hundred dollars to support a company that has by all means created a great game with a serious flaw that they are unwilling or unable to fix...
I have seen Supporters of the game complaining about rubberbanding and desync, if I were them, I'd be very frustrated, not because I was buying a product (I'm sure most low level supporters got their moneys worth, but because I put out out money in support, and got snubbed in return.
I love the game, but after an hour trying to get past the sudden increase in desync, I'm struggling to find any love. That being said, I greatly respect GGG for making a great game and making it free.

I've always tried to figure out why desync throws you exactly in the very middle of the hugest pack of monsters, where you are damn surrounded. Why not next to them,or in an empty space/room,why always in the epicenter?
Desync is pure evil.

It's because you left click on enemies, which if the enemy is actually a screen away with the rest of his buddies guess what? THATS where you'll be.

Try shift attacking / using aoe attacks / spells that don't require movement (melee examples are cleave, goundslam)

I recently got downgraded to my old laptop (10 fps on avg) but I put in multistrike with my melee attack so I can just shift attack and the game will hit targets for me. I no longer desynch (noticably) even @ 10 fps ;)

In Diablo 3, for example, you have a less extreme version of this method. Enemies can overlap and move through each other which makes pathing about a billion times easier. Your attacks are big enough that where the enemy is on the server doesn't really matter because he'll get hit regardless. The areas are rather large with plenty of room to move and few obstructions (even the narrow corridors really aren't very narrow). Your character's positioning simply doesn't matter a whole lot in general. Even in Diablo 3 you can desync and rubberband. Often, there's so much going on on screen that you don't notice or it doesn't matter because you always hit everything anyway.

i have played games so much more graphics heavy, reflex actions heavy, etc with zero to minor desyncs, so even after reading the whole OP i really cant understand what the problem is on POE, but i just have to believe the post, which btw seems to tell us what skills and actions to use so as to have less desync o.O i mean really???

i guess it's just one of the main difference between an amateur and a veteran game company. what GGG wanted for us is the exact opposite of what we are experiencing now, all because GGG won't acknowledge proven "techniques" used by veterans to hide desync. seriously, would you rather choose monsters who don't overlap and are "complex-styled" with more(as in MORE) desync? overlapping monsters in D3 can still be blocked, walled, stacked or funneled through doors with some of them "leaking" out, but it doesnt matter right? we still kill them faster and better coz just like OP said, it's a billion times easier on the desync side. IT JUST FEELS BETTER

this game is beautiful, simply the best of its kind imo. but the whole gameplay experience is pulled down heavily by desync. m not even complaining about "once-in-a-while" desyncs, rather the desync u get all the time while you are playing it, as long as you are playing it. m not a developer but come on, they know what's going on, OP stated all the problems and even the solutions and even compared it to why D3 has less desync. why not get off the high horse and apply even some of the "hiding-desync" techniques?what Diablo 3 did to hide desync is IMO not a bad move rather the best wisest move for games such as these.
