2.3 Poison Block BV Budget Supertank -- League Starter (new vid)
" It was happening to me too. I think the problem was the cursw was too short to even see? Once I leveled Curse on hit and Warlord to 5+ I started to see it. Do you get endurance charges? IGN: Heamer

Sup!
@OP: ty for a really nice build. Currently lvling in PHC, slow and steady. At lvl 42 I did normal lab, never dropping below 80% HP. Is it just me or did the whirling blades nerf hit pretty hard? I have only leveled to 42 atm and went for the right side of the tree first. Will the attack speed get better, or is it worth while to invest in some MS boots and run flame dash instead? |

" I've noticed it seems incredibly slow compared to my other melee-based characters, probably due to low attack speed. OP says to not use movement speed on boots, but honestly I feel like a slug moving around, so I picked up a 20% pair. Whirling Blades is practically useless on 80% of the maps as I get caught on every shrub and rock, or it's a map of corridors/passageways. Faster to get around with movespeed boots and 2 Quicksilver flasks to spam. Cospri CoC Cold->Fire Trickster:

So I've been running this build for Prophecy, and while it is quite fun, I am unsure about it's lategame potency.
I enjoy defensive-based, block/tanky characters - I ran a Varanustra Gladiator on the 2W-PSC with 78% block with EQ doing 15k dps. While I understand tanky characters don't often clear fast, I still ripped through everything feeling literally invincible. I was doing T10 maps mediocre gear, didn't die a single time through Cruel and most of Merc. I could stand in 3 full packs of Perandus monsters and go AFK without dying - vengeance/procs would kill stuff. So far, this build is strong, but feels weak compared to melee-block builds. Maybe I'm doing it wrong, would appreciate any feedback. I struggled through Cruel - dying over 20 times (Shavrone, Piety & Malachai in particular). Once I got into Merc I spent 5-10C on some better gear, which definitely helped - but I still die often. Particularly, I notice the big issue is burst damage. While I can shred through packs without problem, there is the occasional unlucky string of hits/crits which just implodes me - since this build has practically 0 armor, whereas a melee Block character (like my last Gladiator) had 8-10k armor alongside the 78% block. While it is nice having huge life/ES, those few hits that do get through the block (which, I find, is usually at only around 50-60% since I don't have a Rumis yet - and then not always at 100% uptime since we need to cast BO) really, really hurt. I just started mapping and have done some T4-5 maps without too many issues, dying now and then, but occasional big spikes still worry me. Does this get better with higher life/ES, or when I pick up Ghost Reaver? Note, I dropped MoM since the new Commander of Darkness warrants running 2 auras (planning to Clarity + Disc.) Unfortunately since I can't complete Merc Labs yet, I don't benefit... Currently running Clarity, Discipline, Enfeeble on Blasphemy (or Vuln if easy map) and CWDT/CoH Warlords Mark. I picked up an endurance charge from Merc-Oak, and seem to usually have 4 up on most trash packs. On that note, I tried Merc Labs last night and got 1shot by Izaro on the first fight. Makes me wonder, can this build even do endgame labs? My EQ gladiator just facedtanked Izaro without moving the entire fight, don't think I even got hit for more than 30% of my hp. My gear isn't perfect, currently at around 4k hp and 2k ES. Trying to keep resists under 55% since i'll be getting a free 20% from Commander of Darkness. https://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAABAMDAAPuBAcEswVCBx4I9A0fDeIOSBEvEZYVUBa_GGoc3B2-IvQmlSj6KwosnDLRM4c2PTpYPAU8KD1fQYdBlkSrRUdFnUiOSVFJsUyzUlNTUlWuVcZYB13yXyph4mpDbAtsjG0ZdFV1_XgvfOV_xoIQgseD24RvjxqPRo-mkyeVLpeVl_Sa4JuKm6Gcvp2qn9-iAKcIrJius7VItz64k75PwFTAZtAf0PXUQtfP2L3fsOtj6-7vfO-I7-vw1ffX-Tf56P4K?accountName=KooperT&characterName=Xil_ Any comments/feedback welcome! @KooperT: Hhhm, I don't see what your problem is, and quite frankly I am a little concerned. Only lvl50 myself, just entered A3C. Since I swapped to flame dash and 2 quicksilver flasks I have literally breezed through everything. Have sot encountered any problems.
Your gear looks decent, although I would swap the helmet for one with life and in general more ES, but I really don't see why you would be dying so much. 4k L and 2K ES seems reasonable aswell, you probably could get life up to 5k but that should not be the main problem. I would guess that you really need that merc lab, I would definately go for commander of darkness before spirit eater, 20% damage + 10% attack/cast speed + 20 all is too good to miss. Could be why you are dying, the low res is really a problem, see below: If you are hit for 100 elemental damage and have 55 res to that element you will take 45 damage. While if you have 75 res you will take 25 (20 less than with 55%) damage. So the 20% increase in res actually gives you 25/45 = 55% reduction relatively. That is HUGE. Btw, my gear is: Tree: https://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAABAMDAAPuBAcHHgj0DkgRLxGWFr8YahzcHb4i9CaVKPorCjOHOlg9X0GHSVFMs1JTVcZXK1gHXfJh4mpDbAttGXX9eC985X5Zf8aCx4PbhG-PRpMnlS6XlZf0m4qboacIrJi1SLc-uJO9gr5PwFTUQt-K6QLrY-vu8NX31_no_rM=?accountName=The_Gurk&characterName=BeeingVee Going to try WB after I get all possible +attack speed off tree, but atm I'm happier with flame dash + flasks. |

Hi!
@KooperT To be honest, your gear looks solid enough, but I'd echo what The_Gurk said; you have to keep your resists up, since you're taking almost 2x more damage than you should be. With the current arrangement of the Necro, I'd take commander of darkness first just to make leveling that much easier (with the 20% all res). I played on HC, and only ripped once at 88 to a double crit Tunneltrap (the devourerer boss who pretty much is 25% of all HC deaths), so you shouldn't really be having problems. One tiny thing you can do is upgrade your Cybil's to a 8 life gain on hit version (same to you Gurk). It won't make a huge difference, but it is definitely the most desirable stat on the claw (more than cast speed or mana). MOM helped a lot against smaller phys damage hits, so I didn't run into a lot of problems with having low phys mitigation (because against bigger hits, armor is less effective anyway), but using a basalt is a very good idea. Also, I haven't used the new Whirling Blades yet, but if it feels too slow, then flamedash and good movespeed is a good alternative. I like *needing* to use Whirling Blades because it means I have 100% fortify up time. As for the lab and other end game content. I was face-tanking and rolling through T9-10 pretty easily (not like vaal spark through lake, but good enough), and Izaro was a piece of cake. I haven't done uber Izaro yet, but I imagine it will also be a breeze. From what I hear he hits for roughly 5k, but you'll have 10k ehp, and with a basalt flask, you'll be completely fine. Keep going, and keep those resists maxed! P.S. Watch out for Izaro green circle teleports! P.P.S. Nice Stone of Laz! That's the next best thing to the curse! |

" Ok so bit of an update. Upgraded my Cybils to 12% / 8+Life as you recommended - unsure if it helps that much but only 3c so whatever. I refunded Spirit Eater ascendancy for Commander of Darkness, which definitely helped! - Was able to complete Merc Lab with the extra resists, to pick up Spirit Eater again. Picked up a new helm, although low ES, good resists, and a new shield. Currently sitting at 4300HP and 2200ES. Resists still not perfect, looking for new belt/gloves/boots before I decide what to enchant and whatnot. Have a good amount of currency already on Prophecy, about 1ex, but holding off until I find optimal 15-20c items. Resists at about 70% / 75% / 60% Chaos... is shit, I think -40%. Will hopefully find an item or two with this... I haven't played many characters who use basalt, since I normally play melee/armor characters - will need to swap one in after I redo my HP potions I guess. Having 0 armor sucks, I still find I get spiked down to big hits often (rock golems especially hurt). I kinda wanted to fit in Immortal Call onto my CWDT but just can't seem to find the room, unless I pick up an Unset ring or two for the auras. I also picked up Ghost Reaver - which probably helped the most, since I have a nice amount of ES with Discipline now. I was able to knock out a few T8-9 maps last night without too much difficulty, and one T12 Volcano. I still spontaneously explode once every other map or so, but I assume that's due to not being fully resist capped / mediocre gear. Whirling Blades also feels a bit better now with the 10% attack speed from Commander, and a few attack speed nodes around Shadow. Some questions I have - Your build hasn't really been updated for Prophecy, although you did put in a few notes that you would drop MoM (which I never bothered using, since I like running Clarity + Disc.) My mana pool is at around 150 total - 35% blasphemy, 35% discipline, and i'm running a Lvl 10 Clarity. As it is, I find myself running out of mana if I'm not being hit by stuff (since I have the mana-back Lazahwar amulet. I assume having 2 auras now is optimal for Commander of Darkness - is Clarity + Disc the best? I saw some people mention Hatred being a good dps boost, but it's near impossible to fit in alongside a Blasphemy curse without Enlighten. Now regarding curses... I've been running Blasphemy Enfeeble, which I assume is the best bet. Sometimes I swap it with Vuln if stuff is easy. For CWDT - BV - CoH i linked Warlords. It seems enough to keep up my 3-4 endurance charges without too much issue, but the life-leech portion seems a bit weaker since I assume trash is all dying before any real leeching can happen. Would Blasphemy-Warlord be more efficient for Ghost Reaver, since your leech is essentially always up? Ever consider running Blasphemy-Enfeeble-Warlord(or Vuln)-Enlighten, and dropping an aura like Discipline? Also, I've been running Tempest Shield with CoH - Vuln - but I don't have the +1 curse from my necklace yet. Is this screwing up my enfeeble/warlords, or it should be OK since warlords doesn't have 100% uptime anyway? Last question... Any reason you don't pick up Foresight in the build? +20 ES and +20% ES for 2 points seems substantial. Thanks OP, really loving this build and its the first one I think I'll take all the way to end game. I ended up dropping MOM because it leeched my mana way too hard way too fast and ended up getting me killed more often than not. Is there a different way to sustain mana and keep MOM? Ive been using your CWDT warlords mark setup and the mana regain from it isnt even noticeable

@leminlime try running WM on blasphemy, I myself find that way better. Maybe later with a high mana pool the regeneration will be enough, but until then WM-blaspemy is awesome!
@OP sry for somewhat hijacking the thread, no harm meant. Just playing this build and enjoying it so I try to share some experience from earlier leagues! Last edited by The_Gurk#4748 on Jun 13, 2016, 2:07:16 AM
