Some selling-values for modifications are added to the OP. I am 100 % sure it is not perfectly correct for all mods (I have had other values, myself). However it should be a good start for guessing a sell-value for identified items.

The mods and especially the maxed values are taken from:
http://www.pathofexile.com/item-data/prefixmod,
http://www.pathofexile.com/item-data/suffixmod and then there are some mods that does not seem to be listed yet which I have inferred maxed values of from experimenting.
It has all been inferred from magic items, but it seems it can be used on rares.

Btw I tried stuff like up to 4 rare-pairs or 2 rare-triplets it was still 4 Alchemy Orbs or 2 Regal Orbs...so there is no combo recipe I guess ;)

I posted specifically to note that I got an Alchemy instead of the Chromatic I was expecting. It was the only item I sold.

to have the same name the items can be of very different categories too...I just sold 3 Beast Shells...a dex/int shield, a str/dex armor and a dex/int armor...the only thing they had in common was the lvl req (35 or 39), although one armor was of lower base lvl and went up through the mods I guess

Also, if you are selling yellows to free space, try to sell them in batches and pay attention to results - I have a feeling that a certain combinations of mods gives an undiscovered recipe

To you and everyone else: The best way to find out why you got a specific reward is to press F8 when holding the mouse over the item in the sell-window. Then upload the picture to imgur.com or another free online host. Then you can link it or post it in this thread. It will make it a lot easier to reproduce and find out what the exact recipe was! :)

even if they did spawn on another equipment type it would work, sold a "dragon carapace" helmet slot, and chest slot item and got an alchemy orb

White+Blue+Yellow+Brown of the same type = 5 Chance Orbs.

Did this with the Driftwood Bow. All were identified except the blue, the yellow was converted with an Alchemy Orb.
