Preliminary 0.9.4 Patch Notes
I challenge anyone to use the eldritch battery successfully. That one seems ...weak.
Poison is dealt as chaos damage, poster above me. Last edited by sixish#6850 on Dec 1, 2011, 6:41:05 PM

How can someone who has "Avatar of Fire" deal with Reflect Elemental Damage Aura enemies?
Here since Closed Beta. Never found a Mirror. Still love PoE. :- ) Last edited by markus7#6023 on Dec 1, 2011, 6:50:33 PM

"I think it's a lot better than chaos inoculation and hex master. Hex master is absolute garbage — don't think there's any thing else to say about it. Chaos inoculation could be useful, but probably deserves more like 30% increased energy shield. I think it could also (or instead) maybe benefit from a 10% decreased energy shield regeneration delay. To answer someone's question about how common chaos damage is — it's pretty uncommon. Blood rage deals chaos damage to the user, as does 1 unique boss in the mud flats (now fetid pools, I think). In PvP it could be useful though, since there are currently 2 chaos damage skills, and there will certainly be more in the future. "The same way spell casters do. Elemental resist, party members, summons, or skip them. They also have the extremely awkward —but somewhat unavailable to casters— option to equip a weaker weapon so that the reflection is less of a problem (as long as they aren't also regenerating) Fresh cakes for all occasions. " Any poison attacks deal chaos damage. It's possible to get chaos damage from a few other places (a unique ring, some planned spells), but it's pretty rare at the moment. It's intended to be an end-game thing that hurts spellcasters (it ignores their energy shield - hence this passive). | |
Hmm the No Crit but Always Hit talent looks interesting... could build a character entirely around enhanced damage without getting any accuracy or critical passives.

Thanks to all responses about chaos damage. Considering that chaos damage is generally uncommon, I think that the keystone passive is probably too weak. I would be willing to trade all of my life for immunity to a common damage source, like, say, all ranged damage or something, but the way it is, it seems too weak. Perhaps changing the life penalty to half life instead of reduction to 1 would be a more workable idea.

Great to see that there working hard on this game.

"The point is that for a character with a high enough energy shield, but low life, chaos damage is the only thing they really need to worry about. A high ES low life caster is dead anyway from other damage if they lose all their shield in most situations, so there's not much change there. But chaos damage would bypass the shield and kill them very quickly, and this passive prevents that, as well as increasing their shield to boot. It may turn out to be not good enough, but I think you're undervaluing it a bit there. Last edited by Mark_GGG#0000 on Dec 1, 2011, 8:11:00 PM

By the way, I just started the beta today. My game was pretty slow, since my graphics card is old. I'm currently running on a Nvidia 7025. Does anyone have a suggestion of a better graphics card that I could get for reasonably cheap? I want a card that could (likely) play Diablo III on medium settings that I could buy for (ideally) $75-$125 range. Does anyone know if such a card exists, and if so, what it's called and where I could buy one? If so, that would be great! Thanks.
