(Dec 3) Ladder Race League with 50+ Prizes

This was a fun event guys, with one major flaw; The people whining and whinging about how dumb and unbalanced it was. I really would have liked to turn off global but that wasn't an option because I wouldn't have seen the devs text and possibly the announcements. Kindof spoiled the experience a little bit but I still had fun. Looking forward to next event.

If this is an issue, perhaps the devs should implement a means to communicate server-wide messages that bypass global chat. Eventually they're going to have to retool the chat system anyways; global chat is going to be a rather unwieldy entity as the beta expands, eventually going open/full release.
Well, I missed this event. The first ladder race I haven't participated in, even though this one had far more chances of winning a prize.

Looking back on the winners though, I'm glad I didn't waste my three hours. So many of the same names just completely dominate the prize list. How are these people so far ahead of everybody else the entire time? I'm also curious how many of the winners were all in the same group.

I think for future events you should limit how many prizes one person can receive. Maybe 3-4 or something? I think one person winning 17 of 50 prizes is extremely unbalanced. If the race results consistently become one person dominating the prizes, it's really going to shun others away from even bothering in future races.

Yeah, they should equally distribute the prices among all participants. That's what races are for, right? ;)

There already are server-wide messages. Also I don't understand how reading what the devs are saying during the race would be important, I want to concentrate on playing.

Did I say that? No. It's still a competition and there will be many more losers than winners. That much is obvious. There is a difference between winning and completely dominating though. Something needs to be put in place to ensure there are limitations and to keep it balanced. Perhaps my suggestion to limit the number of prizes one person can win isn't the best solution, but nonetheless it's an issue that needs addressing.

I totally agree. We also should've stopped people like Roger Federer, Lionel Messi, the Klitschkos, Babe Ruth, Ronnie O'Sullivan and Dirk Nowitzki from getting good, maybe broke em a leg or something. It just isn't fair when other people are better at something.

Due to the huge number of 1st to clear/reach/kill prizes in this race, the developers where announcing the zones that were full cleared, and the first person to reach each level, etc. So if for example, you're party is clearing Fetid Pool (Normal) and you see the announcement that someone has just full cleared it, that prize is gone, so you know you can leave the zone and focus on pressing ahead in a different direction.

This type of knowledge is why people needed to see what the developers were saying during the event.
I started 30 minutes late with marauder and got to level 10 in Rocky Climb and died there to orange monsters 4 times, gave up. This ladder was badly organized. First of all it all depended on how lucky a person loot and monsters were, that is all that determined them being in the lead such as Nooooope.
