Elaboration on "Shotgun" Nerf? And How Does it Apply to Tornado Shot?
Since the announcement thread is currently in an entropic state of clusterfuck, I figured I should write here in general discussion. Might as well, the likelihood of me entering the closed beta is very small when it begins, so let's strike up a discussion.
" Source: http://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/1248531 I'll admit, I'm not the sharpest thinker in this forum. Oftentimes, I come across things that confuse me. I recently started creating a tornado shot build based on one of the guides that are available. Really been enjoying the playstyle it offers, because it offers more survivability to dampen my otherwise reckless behavior. It didn't take long after for me to hear rumors popping up about the build getting nerfed in some degree and ever since, I've been keeping a close eye on information that comes out which would be related to either critical hits and/or tornado shot builds that incorporate L/GMP. Then I pick up on this little paragraph (quoted above) mentioning the changes to the functionality of multiple projectiles. Now here is the bit that confuses me: How does this apply to tornado shot? I speculate that the shotgunning nerf only extends as far as the original arrows you fire, which allows the arrows created from the original volley to still hit the same enemy multiple times (which you cannot control). However, the reason for my confusion is that I might be thinking too much into this and this only extends to most spells which have now become projectiles. PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.
Also PoE players: The [league mechanic] doesn't need to be nerfed, you just need to play a [current meta] build! MFers found strength in their Afflictions. They became reliant on them. I am not so foolish.
I'm not sure, but my guess is that the first arrow/s you fire out will behave as they currently do (cannot shotgun), but the second arrows that come out of the explosions will no longer be able to shotgun (unlike the current mechanic, where they can).
This is based on the fact that GGG stated: " -> they all come out at the same time; therefore, can no longer hit the same target.
it doesnt effect tornado shot
"All projectiles now behave like arrows." tornado shot is an arrow, anything that wasnt an arrow now behaves the way arrows work. |
|
" But the explosion arrows from TS can shotgun, can't they? Doesn't that mean they won't be able to now?
When your name is called, test it out for yourself, sir!

" I'd love to, but since closed beta access is being limited to a lottery instead of purchase like the original closed beta, there's no telling when I'll be able to gain access. Could be in 5 minutes, or 5 hours, 5 days or even 5 weeks. So in the meantime, it would be great to start up a discussion on the topic at hand as I'm sure a number of people are going to be affected by this change. Would be even greater if a staff member stopped by to share some insight, or just provide a more direct answer. PoE players: Our game has a wide diversity of builds.

" ya they can shotgun, and no I dont think it means they wont shotgun now. No attack can shotgun, this has always been the case. If you fire split arrow at close range only 1 arrow can hit an individual target. If you fire Tornado through a monster only 1 arrow can hit it. Now, if you chain split arrow, the arrows can chain to the same target multiple times, if you gmp tornado shot the after effect arrows can hit the same target multiple times, if you gmp lightning arrow the splash damage explosions from the impacts can hit a monster multiple times... so with supports the after effects of attacks can hit the same target multiple times, and while this is essentially shotgunning, its not "shotgunning" in the specific way it is meant when saying "attacks cant shotgun and spells can". the initial projectiles fired from an attack have never been able to hit a target multiple times, with spells they can, currently. Its all about that first statement "All projectiles now behave like arrows." it means non arrow projectiles now all behave the way arrow projectiles currently work, that is the change. If you chain, if you have an after effect hit, then shotgunning can occur in practice, but the initial projectiles cant shotgun and that is what has always been meant by "shotgunning" when talked about in a technical fashion within this games mechanics. Now, obviously I may be wrong, but if I am its because they have worded what they are saying wrong, what they have said is that spells now behave like arrows, that means that arrows have not changed, the description they give after of how they will work is the current description of how arrows work. |

" "Multiple projectiles emitted at exactly the same time can no longer hit the same target. " This applies to all projectiles, not just non-arrows or arrows. Currently, Tornado Shot is a pretty good single target ability if you get multiple secondary arrows to hit your target. http://i.imgur.com/8fqgfAh.png

" "Multiple projectiles emitted at exactly the same time can no longer hit the same target. " this is a description of how arrows currently work, tornado shot is an arrow, it falls under this description already. |

tornado shot fires projectiles at target location. at 2.0 it would behave like arrow.
multiples AoE projectile still can hit the same target. chained projectile is considered as new projectile and doesn't share the restriction with the first shot (Lightning arrow, Chain gem...) all based on my understanding* :) Delete on death. Last edited by Whildus on Apr 20, 2015, 1:08:21 AM
