The life leech is "from this weapon".
No, it's "Life Leech from HITS with This Weapon". In other words, it's not the greatest offhand weapon since only half of your damage will actually get instant leech, but it scales greatly with other lifeleech sources.


Life Leech is weird

I had a Mace/Claw Duelist that managed to get Claw life leech/gain on hit from my offhand claw when I was using Ground Slam for no clear reason, probably because Ground Slam only uses the main hand weapon and all, but yeah, at least some, if not all, of that life leech can carry across to your mainhand.

And I say had because I died yesterday at lv 49 :/

So people were complaining about how the Claw was a bit lackluster, well I came up with a build that may make it work rather well if you dual-wield it.

You would run Blood Rage with this. Dual-wielding the claws alone would give you 18% life leech, add on 4% from talents, you're at 22%. Then depending on the level of your blood rage gem, another 4-6%. So you're going to have 26-28% life leech. Also, you can add on a Life Leech gem to your main attack and get upwards of ~35% life leech. It takes a lot physical damage nodes as well, so you'll be hitting fairly hard. I also bulked it up by taking a lot of armor nodes and going Unwavering Stance + Iron Reflexes. So you shouldn't kill yourself on physical reflect mobs, especially if you've got a granite up.

The build also has a hefty amount of attack speed, so you'll be hitting very quickly and leeching that much more. Especially with the buff to CI, you'll have a rather large ES pool and the immunity to chaos damage will let you itemize differently. As far as the main attack goes, I'm not quite sure what you'd run really. Maybe Frenzy or Dual-Strike?

If you need more defenses, toss up that new shield ability that was introduced that reduces physical damage even further. Maybe with some tweaking and grabbing mana regen nodes, you could build this in such a way that you can keep the new armor buff up 100% of the time without losing mana. You would most likely need to sacrifice some of the +physical damage nodes and crit nodes to achieve this though. Who knows. We'll see Invalesco or Kripp come up with something crazy sooner or later. I feel like these weapons have potential.

Totally agree, i'm CI and would gladly sacrifice 1500 ES for that helmet.

Disagree. Armour Helmets can go up to 800ish with Trip Resist and life. Those are amazing stats on this, but I wouldn't choose it over that.
