What is the point of actively having to level up gems? Since they just +1Level and no choice is made, couldn't this just happen automatically?

A few reasons:

• Sometimes levelling up a gem raises its mana cost
• Sometimes you may want to change gear, altering your stats and causing a gem you'd still like to use to be unusable
• Sometimes you'd like to share a gem between multiple characters, and levelling it too much will restrict that

Just to elaborate on that point a bit:

All gems have attribute requirements. Sometimes you're randomly wearing gear with +attribute bonuses. If you then level the gem too high, you might not be able to use it if you switch to new gear that lacks the same attribute bonuses. This usually is only a problem with off-class gems (eg intelligence gems for a duellist)

Thanks for this post, very informative. I'm not in beta as of yet but I figured reading through this was a good idea for now so I wouldn't be totally clueless when I do get the chance to play.

I tested the game out during the open week. I Played the bow and was wondering how come it was so hard to control with my mouse. I would try to hit an enemy but keep misclicking and ended up moving instead. :/

Perhaps you forgot about this:

Hold SHIFT to disable movement commands. As long as shift is held you won't be able to move - this is useful for attacking without moving.
