[1.3] The Return of the Frozen Orb Sorc | Budget Three Dragons Ball Lightning Freezer

i try your build and i love it :)

What do you think about the new support gems from the 2.0 ?

Spoiler
Ice bite - Support gem, which grants a chance of getting a frenzy charge when killing a frozen enemy, as well as increased freeze chance

Hypothermia - sup gem - increased damage against chilled enemies

Innervate - grants 10% chance to shock and onslaught buff for 3 sec upon killing an enemy. (onslaught buff provides atk speed, cast speed, and mov speed)

Do you think it will be worth it ?

Edit : Innervate seems OP for the builds and could provide a lot of cast speed with Ice bite's frenzy charge.

Innervate might go well instead of faster casting but I don't know what you'd be replacing for Ice Bite, we're running out of links here :D

Hypothermia doesn't work by the way - The Three Dragons makes Lightning Damage freeze, yes. But freeze and chill are two separate mechanics. And once you equip 3D you cannot chill anymore. At least not with Lightning or Cold damage. You could make use of something that creates ground ice but that seems quirky...

nice guide except all the gear is split into all these spoilers.. it makes it hard to get an overview. You should place all gear in one spoiler as an example so people can compare the stats on all gear collectively instead of scrolling up and down 3 page heights.

This goes for all of the guide it simply seems unorganised. I am writting this not to be an asshole but because i can see you put a lot of work into a fairly cheap and affordable good guide. Hope you will take it to heart in a good positive way.
Thanks for the build, got my witch to level 70, early maps seems easy enough, the playstyle is very fun imo.
Don't you think Cybil's Paw unique claw will be good for this build, since it grants life on hit, or should I stick to 1% life leech on wand?
Hi guys, just a quick heads up: I will update this build to 2.0.0 but I need some more time. I plan to have everything carved out by end of July (have other real life stuff to do in the meantime).

As a quick update strat:
- I will have to drop Arctic Armor
- I will need a new way of sustaining mana drain; with the new reservation the double Herald (50%) and Purity of Lightning (40%) this leaves only 10% mana unreserved - there's no place for Clarity and I don't want to use EB on this spec. Any suggestions would be great!
- I'm unclear whether the 0.2% ele leech on the wand is still worth it; will have to test it

Item choices stay the same. I do not yet plan on adding a specific jewel but would gladly use a mana on hit jewel if they're not too expensive...

Think it's going to need some serious work rawbird. I tried to self adjust my tree based on the changes, the increased damage output of the mobs/less leech + more health on the mobs completely wrecks me to the point where corrupted areas are scary let alone maps.

Which is sad, was using this as my MFer
So, I dedicated some hours today to "update" this build to 2.0.0 and long story short: it doesn't work :(

I specced heavily into crit to compensate the fact that freeze and shock chance went to shit (Added Lightning quality doesn't provide shock chance anymore for example) and came up with this tree

Even with 6 Power Charges up I'm only at ~35% crit chance and the damage is pretty garbage.

I was using Herald of Ice with Curse on Hit Assassin's Mark to generate Power Charges and I was manually cursing with Ele Weakness still. This worked pretty well. I could also link Herald of Thunder with Added Lightning for more Damage but I had to run Clarity on life.

With the ES from not going EB I had a total life pool of ~4.8k but this wasn't enough. I died several times in a harmless Dark Forest and Catacomb map.

I guess it would be a bit better if I swap my gear for good crit gear but I don't want to get into that now. If someone of you is running this build and has better/more successful experiences, please feel free to share them!

Just get back into the game since march, i guess a lot have changed in 4 mounths, sad to see this build dying. Have you any idea how to get it back viable ?

Did you try the new unique "Call of the Brotherhood"?
---
Hi Kelemn,

Call of the Brotherhood together with 3D would make things worse not better I presume. You'd loose 50% of damage you would need to freeze stuff with lightning and the only thing cold damage could do with 3D is ignite which we don't need in this build.

The "problem" is that they changed the status ailment duration formula with 2.0.0 - it requires waaay more damage to keep a high HP mob frozen. Whereas in 1.3.0 you only needed to crit or proc a freeze and get at least a 300 ms freeze (and ball lightning ticking so often that they were perma-frozen) you will now rarely, very rarely freeze mobs at all.

I can't think of a way of reviving this build. Would make much more sense to play it without Three Dragons as a "normal" crit ball lightning build...
