What I'm saying is that when you are playing something like say DW crit cyclone then you need to reach a sort of happy medium between both attack speed and move speed. Pointing cyclone to the edge of the screen is something I haven't done since I was a total newbie.

I do agree with you that damage peer hit is the most important stat for cyclone, which makes crit cyclone super powerful and also suicidal to reflect.

Edit: now that I look at your pictures, your cyclone path seems just like what I've been doing all this time :)

I see your point. Ther is 1 big BUT.

IF I "cast" cyclone" faster then my attackspeed would "recast" it ,then EVERY POINT INVESTED into attackspeed is wasted.

There are Situations where you only cast once and let it pulse to your attackspeed, even in this build (heavy reflect maps E.G).

And even then, the low attackspeed helps coping with reflect, since I can regen and take pots, because my hits are so slow and I am not instagibbing myself.

YES, YOU ARE RIGHT, ATTACKSPEED CAN BE IMPORTANT. But for this build, it is counterproductive.

I suppose you are right. I was projecting your ideas onto my build, which is why it didn't really work out too well since I'm built very differently. I like having a lot of attack speed so I can also use other skills effectively.

More damage per hit is bad for me because then I will one hit myself to reflect.
For try, for see, and for know.

This is a buff
Thank you for the information, This sounds very interesting, using movement speed as a alternative damage source for cyclone, makes one wonder what other hidden mechanics is there still in this game. I do know that Lightning warp as a damage source can be scaled with movements speed.

This sounds promising for a 1 hand shield cyclone build I have been planning. Slow heavy damage 1 handers scale well with the counter attack skills riposte, reckoning and vengeance but badly with cyclone, but perhaps this strategy can make a slow 1h more viable.

Defenatly. For HC I would even recomend it. There are just no cheap slow 1h weapons out there. Best here would be a Slow Rapier for the weapon range like

http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Vaal_Rapier.

Or a pure dmg variant would be a :

I will try to do a shield variant of the tree too.

Ok i'll plan for a reaver axe of a gavel or is there a great advantage to using a rapier for the extra range?

I noticed in patch 1.3 the stated that:-
"Fixed a bug related to Cyclone where its stats could apply for a while after it ended."

Could this effect this "movement based" cyclone method?

That fix was that, after you finished your cyclone, you did "pulsate" your damage a last time even if you stoped cycloning before. Does not affect this build too much.

http://pathofexile.gamepedia.com/Range#Weapon_Range

Here is a list of weapon ranges. It's easier to get more AOE with a rapier than a mace or axe.

In our build, if you use Inc. AOE and Conc effect, you get with both 21/20:

44 inc, 30 reduce = 14 increased, + 20 from templar tree, + 20 from 20Q Cyclone = 54% increased aoe.

Foil 7 + 2 (master of arena): 9 * 1.54 = ~ 13,9

Mace, Axe 5 + 2 : 7 * 1,54 = ~ 10,8

So basically you got 3 less range with a mace or axe than a foil, which is the same as not getting any AOE with foils. The more AOE you get, the bigger the difference will be. The best DPS increase on a rare weapon with 3 Phys mods would be the Vagan suffix mod "+ 2 weapon range" in this case.

You can test the "difference" ingame by using the range of some spells.

EG Base Firetrap has 15, use a conc on it and you get a radius of 10,5 ( 15 * 0.7). Add a lvl 7 AOE gem to get a radius of 13,5 (15 * 0. 9).

You see the difference on the radius ingame.

Basically, it is not much. I feel though, that it is QoL to get this radius. Especially if you use the Vagan craft "+2 Weapon range" or even corrupt a Weapon for this mod.

Hmm ... quite interesting.

I was wondering ... at which point do/did you find the movespeed to become detrimental to your survivability ?

If paired with Queen of the Forest and a lot of evasion ... for example.

Just thinking of possibilities.

Also ... do you think it is possible for this build to work without regen and mostly based on leech to sustain itself ?
