Clarifying Puncture
" The new puncture also can't (do what was its supposed mechanic). Puncture lost its mechanic (and that's with GG weapons!) and was demoted to an under-performing, sub-par, generic attack that plays the same as burning arrow or default attack. Puncture is not obsolete. When build for it it is still good enough.
But it isnt a cheap one click mechanic some seem to like and feel entitled to have. What got destroyed is cheap and lazy way of killing anything that didnt got already 1KO with tornado shot. And even that with Bloodletting passive is still doable but requires two hits instead of one. Oh my! The horror! |

" Melee puncture took the bigger hit. Hell I turned Frenzy into like puncture thanks to the melee chance to bleed node + bloodletting notable, and it is already doing a much better job than the current puncture. I invested in that puncture can more than just be doable, but not even close to those crit bow/trappers that can easily make puncture OP. Investment like Bino + DoT nodes + Puncture + increased duration + melee phy damage to make it worthwhile, but ever since the patch came, it was not even worth it anymore. Hence, why I turned my main skill (Frenzy) into almost like a DoT skill. Sadly it was the bow usage that turned it into a joke.
Point blank + trap + crit == absurd damage. And it had to be cut. Nothing else did such damage without pretty much any risk. Melee puncture is - just like melee in general - colateral. " Thanks for the info, I was puzzled by this as I already stated in Puncture balance thread. The nerf to Puncture was necessary but I think the movement based DoT was hit too hard. I am currently using a decent Citadel bow and q20 l16 Puncture with the Bloodletting notable, but the skill seems unrewarding against rares, bloodline uniques and Piety while farming Lunaris. " It was made worthless using it on a 6-link, GG bow. Most people don't have that kind of gear and not even specialising will help them. Therefore -> mostly obsolete Whatever. Imo, the need for tree specialisation is what made PoE combat from OB multi-skill fun, into current 1-skill spam boredom. And if GGG nerfed puncture because of 1 specific case / build (that trap thingy), then it really shows they cant balance.
