Lightning Thorns

Rolled two maps with thorns while solo lvling my wander.

I left promptly bailed on both maps... because of one skill.

Lightning thorns is a great concept as a support skill. It just shouldn't do ~1000+ base damage per hit...

I know what you mean... except it being a great concept. I would say it is an uninspired lazy excuse for a mechanic. Reflect itself is a lazy way to try to balance offensive and defensive character attributes, LT is just another artificial difficulty mechanic that simply forces a specific playstyle on people.
I like it. You can easily wait few seconds or move to different position. Why should you be able to spam your aoe mindlessly?
IMO there should be a lot more tricks that mobs could do against aoe. Also mobs should do more aoe damage, theres way too few of them

It's should stay in place, elemental damage right now does like 2x the damage of pure physical builds. There needs to be a draw back and this is basically the only one.

Wait a few seconds or move to a different position eh? So if i move to a different position then the LT cant hurt? How about the fact I can fire one shot, LT is cast after I shoot and I die instantly. How about the fact that I can't even shoot them with my single target attacks with life leach without dying in under a second with 4k hp and 80lr? Guess I could just make a skele totem and shoot once every other second cause that sounds super fun.

If they are going to burden us with these shitty reflect mechanics make them universal. Make summons reflect damage to the summoner. Make totems reflect back to their summoner. Make all builds equally garbage and not fun to play.

this has NOTHING to do with elemental or physical damage. You have no idea WTF you are talking about. This kills a physical damage dealer just the same as an elemental damage dealer. It makes my physical ranger build just as bad as my lightning arrow and just as bad as my cyclone. LT does not differentiate damage. The only things it does not hit are totem users and summoners.

I agree with this.

Lazy, boring, uninspired mechanic. Introduces difficulty in an artificial fashion.

There's nothing "hardcore" about it -- it's just straight up lazy. If the game needs to be more difficult - make the mobs outright stronger. Have them deal more damage, attack faster, or give them better AI.

I understand their goal is to have a system balanced similarly to Magic: The Gathering...

Let's imagine the following card in Magic, then...

Lightning Thorns
Blue
2 blue mana to cast
Instant

Players take 20 damage per creature that damaged the caster of this spell this round.

Now that sounds fair and balanced! I can remember that card!! Oh wait. No. I can't remember that card. Probably for a good reason...

Yes you can wait until it wears off, and if theres a pack with few thorns active, yes you can move a bit and single target other mobs (if can't mages) until LT wears off.

I'm myself using gmp chain 3 aps with only 75 LR and haven't had any game breaking issues

Yes, I know what I can do to avoid it if they are on screen before I am simply dead. I do not find this fun though in the slightest. I simply find it as motivation to build a cheesy ass summoner or dual totem build to avoid the stupidity that is reflect mechanics in all forms.

FYI I have more than double your aps on my ranger.

Every person in this thread is running 75+ LR and still has to jump through hoops against a pack with just a few mages. You're just trolling.

Summoner and totems we go until thorns / phys reflect is dealt with!

So true. I actually started a dual totem user shortly after they expanded LT to hit spells/projectiles, got to about level 8 and just quit. I don't see the point when the whole allure of the game is essentially ruined (build diversity).
