Live preparation of 1.2.0 patch notes

I was really expecting to see a change that the rest of the starting area's had been updated to reflect the changes to the shadow tree..

I mean seriously why pick a ranger and go the +attack speed nodes there when you can pick shadow and get much better attack speed nodes.
"Guardian of the Mound added to prisoner's gate". Prisoner's gate already has a zone boss though. Is the guardian replacing it?

Wait

"The Reduced Mana support gem is now available for all classes as a quest reward."

Thank you, GGG!

Can someone please tell me why Shock Nova STILL HAS NOT BEEN IMPROVED / BUFFED?

Really GGG?
My little tribute to Diablo 1 aka why Diablo 3 is the worst part of the series.

I suspect it's got to do with their Magic: the Gathering approach to balance.

There's this rather famous Q&A from Magic:

"
Q: "Why does R&D print ridiculously bad cards in sets, particularly as rares?" --Elliot Fertik, Philadelphia, PA

A: From Mark Rosewater, Magic senior designer:
"This is a very complex question that I'm sure I'll discuss in greater detail in a future column. But the short answer is that weak cards are a fundamental part of the game. Richard Garfield has described Magic as a 'game of exploration.' Much of the fun of the game comes from players examining each new set to see what they can discover. Many players take great enjoyment in finding use of cards that others dismiss. R&D cannot make bad cards that are secretly good without also making bad cards that are actually bad.

In order for there to be discovery of bad skills that are secretly good there need to be bad skills that are actually bad.

Shock Nova is that skill.

The only fix for self-casting shock nova is, remove the inner dead zone.
I think they simply haven't decided what to do with Shock Nova yet. It's an interesting skill but the existence of the deadzone warrants a finer approach than a simple damage buff.
Have you made a cool build using The Coming Calamity? Let me know!

I take it you didn't play PoE when the dead zone didn't exist. The skill was far more broken than Arc or SRS is currently.

Sure you could argue that by removing the dead zone and adjusting the damage the skill could be viable but not overpowered, but then again, that'd make it pretty much Ice Nova 2.0. At least now it has a unique mechanism, even if it isn't working that well.

Exactly. If they only buff damage, we'd get another Detonate Dead or Searing Bond, a ridiculously overpowered skill that everyone hates to use because of a clunky mechanic.
