Viper Strike is once again fucked over.
In 1.1 with lvl-17 VS, each charge does nearly 200 dmg/sec over 7 seconds. With the max 4 charges, that's a total of 5600 dmg in 7 seconds. With Multistrike I can hit 4 times in less than a second. And this is with Melee Splash and Conc Effect, so it infects a whole pack at once. In 1.2 with lvl-17 VS, I'll do around 600 avg dmg/hit, and Viper Strike will have a 50% chance to do 175% of that as Chaos damage over 7 secs. That's an average of 525 damage per hit in 7 seconds. At about 5 hits per second, that's a total of about 2600 VS damage from a 1-second Multistrike volley, drained over a 7-second duration. The unlimited VS stacks in 1.2 is a lousy deal, the whole point of the skill is to quickly infect your victims with a long-lasting multi-dose of poison, and then follow up with a Culling Strike from a hard-hitting attack. I'm not going to pound away on a monster pack for several seconds to build up a massive poison dose, not when I could be finishing them off with something far more efficient. Yet another example of GGG mucking around on a whim, wasting development time on a skill they already invested a major effort into overhauling only a few patches ago. What's worse is they arbitrarily stripped all the Chaos and DoT damage nodes out of the Duelist area, leaving the only remaining nodes in - you guessed it - the Shadow area. Since the dust settled from the last major DoT revisions, no one has been complaining, no one asked for a radical makeover, no one who's currently using VS is going to appreciate it, and with such a sluggish damage yield, it won't even measure up to a good Puncture build.
