August Expansion Teaser Screenshot #3

i'm very happy the chained ladies are back, now just merge the "shop" into the main menu (inventory, character, etc)

but we're focusing too much on UI, what about the aura supports etc?
"

Some specific changes from the last iteration are:
The new menu button has been improved.

Button is fine... the word "Menu" permanently on the screen is bad, BAD! Serves no purpose whatsoever, make it a tooltip. Why not just plaster the word "LIFE" over the red globe, "MANA" over the blue globe and "CHAT" over the chat bubble so players can learn basic interactions? QWERT and 12345 are fine because they can constantly change throughout the game and need to be known/seen. MENU and SHOP do not.

"

The shop button now fits in better with the rest of the UI and doesn't stand out so much. The reason it's wider now is because the dollar sign was immersion-breaking and didn't localise well into other languages.

Sorry, but "SHOP" stands out like dog's balls. Not sure how this would look with other languages etc. Can't say I had ever noticed the $ sign and it certainly wasn't "immersion-breaking". As suggested before, why not use the POE currency symbol associated with the actual POE Store?

I'm interested to know what other gaming UI's you've researched to come to this conclusion? I know D2 didn't have "MENU" and "SHOP" plastered across the UI, but D2 never had a store, so what other MTX based game UIs have you reviewed? OK, I just saw a LOL interface and looks like you've directly copied them (not that I agree). LOL is a far less immersive gaming experience, it is action/timed based, competitive team-play... not an atmospheric, character building wander through a gaming world.

This is the last I will comment on the matter, your game mate and your decisions, I'll still play anyway, but sticking labels over the UI is so 90s. It isn't cool with today's minimalistic and clean design methodologies.

"

... but have moved this to a longer-term change. The new statues will have a classical Roman look that better fits with long term stylistic goals.

Roman/Greek stylings have been done to death already... a cool factor about POE was it's fresh look and feel, but it looks like that is changing. I'm not liking the sound of this "new" art direction, but will reserve further judgement/comment for now.

The above is simply one opinion and I appreciate all the hard work that goes into such decisions. :)

Cheers

Statues covering up is not an issue here. One globe in one corner and another in other corner is a problem! This style for d2 was ok, nobody had big monitors in that time. But now it is very bad design. Look at d3 or the incredible adventures of vanhelsing 1/2 or torchlight 1/2, they do it way better. Torchlight 2 had extra menu setting to get globes more in the middle.

This is no 15' age any more!
I'm kind of sad there was so much hate on the initial removal of the chained women from the UI; the new one (with the woman on the left and man on the right) was more subtle and, in my opinion, artistic.

An option to toggle the UI would be nice, because it'd let people choose what they prefer.

Secondary note: the "shop" button looks a little out of place (I prefer the current "$" one), but if you think it'll help boost MTX sales, then I'm all for it. Can't wait to see what the next supporter packs offer ^.^

I gotta agree here, the MENU and SHOP thing really is bothering me. No need for it to be honest. Might as well go another step further and label the MOUSE so people dont get lost and confused what they are dealing with.
It's better than the first, but not as good as the original. Don't like the color used for the area between the globes, its too bland.
Frankly, I don't care for having men or women on the health and mana orbs. I don't feel the orbs need any adornment whatsoever. But then, I'm likely in the minority on this one.

I also find the new flask display ugly and primitive. It looks like somebody stuck the flasks into wet concrete as an art installation.

(Totally irrelevant: for a supposed mage, Daresso or whoever he is looks awfully Shadowy/Mortal Kombat.)

The only complaint I ever had with the old UI was that it made it somewhat more dangerous to attack downscreen rather than upscreen, as the ridiculously oversized health and mana orbs can and do hide significant threats from the player's view, particularly on a laptop screen.

I have to say a lot of this seems like change for its own sake, which is never a good idea. That's the sort of thinking that leads to Celtic Frost making an album like Cold Lake.

Have you paid attention to history class? Colosseums are not a roman invention, but rather a greek thing. And its called amphitheatre. There is only 1 colosseum in the world, and it would be the Flavian Amphitheatre.
First I would like to say youll never make everyone happy with a change but im glad you put the females back from a long time players view they always felt just right ya know, they never felt weird or outta place or to big you rarely notice them and they dont get in the way when it matters and I think thats whats important and I think this is the case because they are on the outside of the screen rather than facing in.

Now for some feedback on the new UI. First off I think the left side where the healthglobe/potions are needs to be darker and the very top of the potions near the lids seems very outta place and wrong to me. I understand where you were going with this or I think i know that it needs to feel like the potion just fits into a socket or space area but it feels bad, though i dont have a good suggestion other than just fillin in that space above the pots.

Other than that I actually like the new UI it may be a little to on the light side for poe but hey its got style going for it and I am all on board with making things look a little better as long as they dont drop our frames ya im talking to you rain haha. I think the UI is an improvement but I also think it needs more work just my opinion.

Lastly why is nobody talking about the dude standing in the picture did I miss something is it just common knowledge whey this dude is in 2 places at once and it seems completely random in this picture. Is he a hired mercenary oh please yes as a solo and old d2 player this would be awesome, this would probably be my favorite addition to the game since strongboxes and I think strongboxes are prob the best thing so far hands down imo.

P.S. as a HC player who usually uses a shield we need an epic shield skin mtx I know theres 2 already but tbh I hate them both, my apologies to whoever worked on them I think you did a good job they just don't appeal to me at all. I think they should stand out more like the weapon skins do, like you know that shiny weapon that dude is holding you just want to have it....as an example could do like a vaal shield mtx where blood is dripping off the shield or the shield is like a mini black hole like the teleport scroll haha maybe im just to optimistic.
