It is extremely easy to test. even with low level gems. Go get a zombie/spectre raise it with the gems in and then go kill cruel hillock. (obviously if you have higher level gems do merc) then repeat the process without. The gems snapshot when the actual trap is triggered with whatever is in the link. You can see this in the above test when a single zombie with the gems still in at the time of creation 2-3 shots merc hillock. With the gems out as done in the video takes 8-10 swings. Spectres using the same test have the same result. If you don't believe me please feel free to test it on your own. you just need a 4link item and easy to get gems. To my knowledge ggg has never said either way. But they really shouldn't have to. It's very easy to test on your own. The results are glaring if you use level 20 gems.
