Build of the Week: Season 2 Episode 4 (Two-week Race Build)

Self-found gear looks like this, for example:


I can hardly believe that the items in the OP were found while Chris played his character to lvl 72 in two weeks. It's not that easy, especially in a hardcore league. (Even with the stronboxes everywhere, they mostly drop shit, and you'd need to use up most of your currency to roll a decent box with a self-found playstyle.)

That being said, I'll definately play during the two-week race, just to see what gear can I find. No trading and cheesy stuff, pure SF.

For anyone new to racing or the whole self-found playstyle, do not fool yourselves. This is not a real picture of a fresh SF character. 90 life, 900 armour multi-res gear pieces? Chris may have been extremely lucky, or just grinded 18 hours a day (but I suppose not, since he has waay more important things to do), but most of us won't get this kind of equipment in two weeks.

... but we can never know. RNG is RNG. Chris is the God of RNG, sooo... I'll just stfu now. We'll see.

second: any plan to ever create Evasion char? because the moment you mentioned youll showcase a build for this league I KNEW that Iron Reflexes are going to be used. that was obvious with any poe experience. the 'crutch' keystone and evasion removal


third: that plumeral invader probably killed you soon after the recording ended or you needed TP to refill potions. not a good sign - rebalance is not really balanced (we'll see) or the build even with such gear is not really that cool. life leech from the tree with molten strike does almost nothing so better get (lucky) vaal orb on one of these rings/amus to get +1% fire leech

self-found all three over the last few days, with no IIR, from 66-70 maps. Less QQ more pew pew, you can self find gear.

(actually the laquered helm I found around level 50 on my other trap character, have had it for awhile, but I found it before i started mapping)

^quick question, how do those compete with the items listed in the OP?

the helm listed there is roughly 35% better in overall stats benefit. Add this 35% to every single item piece and that results in a whole other different play-style. (good items give passive points for example)

Also what is the occurrence rate of such an item and the possibility your character will specifically be able to utilize it?

if you look I responded to the post saying a helmet with 690 ish armor (and no other stats) is only self findable after a year of grinding. I called bullshit and showed two helmets I found over the weekend and one helmet that is carrying me through maps that I found before/around the start of act 3 merci, self found, solo, with 0 iir.

Less QQ more pew pew is the point. If i grind 70-75 maps all next weekend, i, as a betting man would bet i upgrade my self-found gear, which is starting to get really strong. If i condensed it and grinded all week, it wouldnt even be a bet.

I found an Alpha's Howl, too, also on a relatively low level map (71, I think). However, it was the only one I found in nearly 1000 hours of playing (counting since release). There is no "pew pew" when it comes to drops like that, it's just random. You may get one in 100 hours, or you may not see one in 10,000 hours.

I'll play my BM FT build (the one in my signature), because I know first-hand that it works with the kind of drops I get when I play self-found. Won't even need a 5L chest, which is also not trivial when playing self-found. It can't do Atziri, but that doesn't matter for this race. :p

you might not find the alphas howl, but you will find something comparable/better in overall strength for general use, though you need alphas specifically for snap shotting niche, which isnt really what we are talking about.

When even in movies made by devs we see how boss is skipped... well it says alot.

Anyone noticed the build has Iron Reflexes but only uses Armor based gear? Would be better of having the dexterity bonus to eva IMO.
