THIS.

It seems many people didnt get the fact that the CoD + minions was no bug, but rather a clever use of game mechanics. GGG did not know that this was possible, but looking back at it it didn´t use any mechanics that were not meant to be there. Chris stated this in his podcast with hedgemonica (I think that show you spell it) a few days ago. It is sad that it happened, but it was not an exploit.
Such disappoint..

I was under the impression that March would be Act 4 :(

What's the problem with CoD and minions ? Summoners don't have many great skills you know, I agree they must have one or two mega combos builds, and greats minions with greats powers.

Summoners don't jump like frogs or thrown theirs staffs with spectral throws like "amazing" top racers >_>

The $250 I have donated to this free game should be more than enough to show GGG that I respect their product but the fact remains that Chris is now an oversee'er of many ppl and is not as 'hands on' with the programming as he used to be. For this reason he doesn't have the answer to specific questions about balance & direction & that is why I would like for Qarl to show his face in some interviews as whenever there is balance question posed to Chris he says "well you would need to ask Qarl about that as I'm not sure of the specifics".

We are not in a position nowadays where hearing what Chris had for lunch or whether they are pleased with launch is relevant. Many of us have been here for years & we have suffered the same imbalances for years as well.

I would like to hear what Qarl has to say for himself because personally I feel the guy is out of touch with the game. Apparently he only just realised there may be a problem with IR...the community has been saying as much since deep CB, yet is has come as a revelation to Qarl.
Back in CB we were told that "we are looking at rebalancing every skill"...that never happened.

We are always told Qarl is rushed off his feet doing behind the scenes balance work but we never see a balance patch come out. Just reactionary patches to gems they didn't test properly that are being abused. Look at the recent trigger gems...literally every single one was released with abusable problems that had to be hotfixed. It's getting embarrassing.

So I don't see why you would think it so unreasonable of me to hope for Qarl to do an interview & shed some light on the method to his madness.

As for the interviewers on this podcast I thought they did a shoddy job. Aux got a 10min intro and from then on the interview went even more downhill. Considering they hyped it for week they couldn't have come off as any more unprepared & amateur.

this this and more of 'this'

i dont know who is doing the balancing stuff but i think he/she is simply blind

i'll ignore gear (ggg employee that designed soultaker and let voltaxic and crown of eyes into the game should be.. relieved of their balancing duties. immediately) but skills.. guys, WE the players know IMMEDIATELY after release if skill will be sht (like barrage) or awesome (like ST). it takes SECONDS to see corner cases. for more complex/normal skills (like flameblast, storm call, lightning mines) there are no such issues. these are strong/weak depending on who uses them but these are not broken/garbage

trigger gems were tragic. curse on hit.. melee kill.. cast on STUN! these are.. well.. fillers. i use cast on melee kill just of stubbornness but i know have i replaced CoMK+DD with any other melee supports my dmg would treble, at least

on the other side - cwdt and cocs. people STILL dont level cwdt and cocs just got buffed. is this for real?

it took several patches, passive tree changes etc to finally make searing bond viable skill. burning arrow (and arrow skills in general) still wait for the day when LA isnt the auto-pick. etc etc. balance changes are not rocket science. when you see that everybody say A is crap you can either:
- refute it immediately with working example/idea
- ignore the voices and keep the 'good job'
- realize there is a problem and fix it
- realize that people are moaning and throw them a bone (ice nova..) pretending this is a fix

ive never seen first option done and maybe few of third one. sad

This is probably too harsh. Balance is never perfect, and you certainly can't please everyone.

Why would Qarl do an interview where basically you would be ripping him to shreds for balance issues as you see it. The interview itself would be nothing but negative. No one, in any game, has nice things to say about balance. It's always "that's OP", or "that's useless". Very little middle ground.

They also have limited testing capabilities (time wise), so having the community "test" things out in 4 month leagues is ok with me. I think you are taking things a little to seriously for a game that gets updated every two weeks or so.

Finally finding the "perfect" fit for every skill/keystone is nearly impossible. What do you want Qarl to do with IR? Nerf it? Then people are pissed off. Change how it works? People are pissed off their build has changed. Re-work it completely or add a new mechanic? No telling how that effects aspects of the game, and people again bitch about "balance"

I would probably just say, take it easy man, it's still a work in progress.

EDIT: Just to clarify, I'm no GGG apologist. I think solo balance, desync, crafting, and the trade system are an abomination. I certainly have frustration with how these mechanics work, but I believe that they are fixable. I might not like the time frame GGG works with, but I cannot pass judgement on things I have no first hand knowledge of. If you don't have patience for a pretty small developer, one that won PC game of the year, then the door is to your left. Check back in a few months when you are not so bitter.

Was zone RNG changed in this patch? I noticed a few zones last night that seemed very different, namely western forrest, it was huge, the road was very atypical and the placement of the emblem boss and Alira was very different.

lol scrubcore

Nice try. :) Profile->Characters. I did check yours, your highest is a 77, you know nothing about this game. Shoo, back to your cave little troll.

Semantics. Doesn't matter what you wanna call it. You are probably one of the ppl who used it, I don't see any other reason why you'd wanna argue this. You'd have to be either a very stupid person, or someone in complete denial, to not see that this exploit was CLEARLY unintended and made your character stupidly overpowered - it broke the game.
I'm sorry if you can't understand that, I'm sorry if you lack the common sense for what's wrong and what's right. The right thing that should've been done is inform the devs, wait for a fix, and not to abuse an exploit that breaks the freaking game. Period. End of story.

I would be happy to discuss balance and other game elements on a podcast (and I know Rory is also keen).

The interpretation that us sharing some stats for interest means that is all we know about the game is false. We frequently look at what is happening in the game in far more depth, but thought the community would be interested in some of the stats we normally see.

We love to add things like the trigger gems. Dangerous things which leave possibilities open. If we didn't want to allow players to explore such things, and only wanted balance above all things, we'd not add much to the game, certainly nothing as dangerous as trigger gems, or totems, or traps, or mines, or keystones.

There is always a tension between adding things that allow for emergence of interesting things.

We are trying to allow players with more experimental bent to access new things, like Shrines and Nemesis mods in the new leagues.

If you aren't interested in us adding cool new things into the game that allow awesome and terrifying things to happen, and things that are going to be very dangerous to game balance, you may want to avoid 1.1.0. There are some big changes in that update.

As for being run off my feet, it’s true. I’m also often working on production or other things that aren't balance. Luckily we have more people than just me involved in working on the balance.

We have been progressively updating skills. There is a wide variety of build diversity this season, both at high level play and throughout the game.

Yes, the one week race had a narrower range of builds, yet it was still diverse.

Am I happy with the balance of the game? No, I never am. Is there method to the madness? Yes.

The nature of the game highlights balance issues fast. Our players are good and excessively good at exploiting the smallest of advantages. We love our players for that and like the game that it makes.

Considering how much freedom we give the player, I am proud of how well the game balance turns out.

I'd be keen to see what games out there at the moment have better balance for high end play, and how many viable builds they have.

In Onslaught there were at least 14 different build templates used by players that effectively dealt with high end content, and there were variations within them. We have more variety this season.

As for your comments on the podcast, I thought it was good, and interesting. Which is why I would be keen to discuss things with them. I wouldn’t be surprised if what they see as being balance issues is different to what you see as a balance issue.

Sounds like an exciting patch!

And don't worry Qarl, we still love you. Glad to know there's a method to the madness.
