Enlighten
It should increase the exp gain for the character using it,
ie if you link it to a fireball, you earn more exp from the kill. |
|
After a quality increase it levels faster. So not completely useless.

It doesn't work when you put it in a +1 to all skills weapon in your weapon swap.
I tested it with a simple boss kill, 2 idential gems, xp gain is the same. Is this a bug? I hope so, otherwise I don't see that much use of this gem. If it will be fixed in the future then 5l or 6l weapons with +1 to all skills will be a nice commodity to have in your weapon swap Update!! It does work, I made the error to test it with two random gems and ofcourse I used two support gems and not 2 skill gems as the support gem clearly states. my bad Last edited by zhirek#2867 on Jan 19, 2014, 6:49:53 PM

Overall opinion about Enlighten - GJ for implementing the most useless support gem in the game! Even Cast on Death is better - at least, can be used for suicidal kill in PvP...

Problem with this gem is that the xp bonus provided is not nearly enough. 20-30% then we are talking.
At 10% it might even be better to have a 6'th gem to level instead. Not to mention this gem takes weeks to level up. |
|
Say you have it maxed out at 15% bonus in a swapped out 5L weapon which would be the configuration you are getting the most use possible from the bonus (assuming no one is going to use a 6L for levelling gems).
Now you kill something for 100 exp and the other 4 gems each get an extra 15 exp for a bonus of 60 extra exp total but you've just wasted the 100 exp for the gem you could have had in Enlighten's socket. So even in this best case scenario you're actually down 40 exp for using the gem. You'd need the gem to be +25% just to break even and not being able to level support gems with it makes it doubly useless. I'd say it would have to be +40% and work on support gems for me to even consider using it. |

" 6Link offhanded weapon with +1 to All Gems Enlighten Lvl 4: 15% Increased Experience for linked Gems Citus + 2x Perendus = 11% Increased Experience for Character Kill a mob group totaling 100xp. 100xp is awarded to the player, with an additional 11% bonus from gear. The player gains 111xp total. Each gem gets a base 110% off the experience earned by the player after applying xp bonuses so they gain 11.1% 100*1.11*0.1 + 100*1.11*0.1*0.15) = 11.1 + 1.665 = 12.765 exp per gem (a total of 2.765 xp additional per gem vs a build not using xp gain gear or 1.665%) 12.765*5(all active gems ofc)= 63.825 experience per gem 5Gems gaining 63.825xp vs: 6 gems being 60% without xp boosting gear 6 gems being 66% with xp boosting gear So... not only does it fail with a standard loadout +1 to all gems setup on a 6link --- reading the main page it says the following --- Gems can also level up. When a player is awarded experience, all gems in equipped items gain 10% of that value. This gain is in addition to the experience earned by the player. So redoing the math, in case I did it wrong by assuming it was 10% of the base and not 110% of the xp... Using Chitus and 2x Perendus (+11% increased xp gained) (100+10)*(1+0.11) = 122.1 xp per gem prior to enlighten 122.1*(1+0.15) = 149.415 xp per gem after lvl 4 enlighten is applied So we will use a 6link rare with "+1 to all gems". 6Gems=660xp (w/o gear) 6Gems=732xp (w/ gear) 5Gems=550xp (w/o gear or enlighten) 5Gems=610xp (w/ gear w/o enlighten) 5Gems=747.075xp (w/ gear and enlighten) So the difference is 15.075xp total with opportunity cost of one gem factored in. To get a level 20 cleave we need a total of 332412208 exp... (that's a lot). Looking just at the first part... [Total XP Needed]/[XP Gained Per 100xp] = [# of 100xp groups needed to get to max lvl] 332412208/110 = 3.02192916363636363636363636363636363636363636363636363636... × 10^6 332412208/122.1 = 2.72245870597870597870597870597870597870597870597870597870... × 10^6 332412208/149.415 = 2.22475794264297426630525716962821671184285379647291101964... × 10^6 332412208/122.1-332412208/149.415 = 497700.7633357317124007215363504892668631249095057949590637311... So you would need ~500k more monsters that give 100xp for a w/o enlighten vs w/ enlighten Okay, so now that we have the numbers... (a)=332412208/122.1*6 = 1.63347522358722358722358722358722358722358722358722358722... × 10^7 (b)=332412208/149.415*5 = 1.11237897132148713315262858481410835592142689823645550982... × 10^7 a-b=5.21096252265736454070958638773115231302160325350768077402... × 10^6 so you need 52109625.2265736454070958638773115231302160325350768077402 more experience to get all 6 gems to lvl 20 opposed to the 5 to lvl 20 332,412,208 - 52,109,625 (i cut off the float, sue me) = 280,302,583 So you still have a debt of 280,302,583 experience towards a gem (so enlighten gets knocked here) So let's say we want to get 20/20 gems. They're the only ones people will buy tbh... So you have 560,605,166 in debt to one gem now... 332,412,208 / 560,605,166 = 0.592952452386070234679214497284885883481137952981332319723932... So the 6Link with xp gain has a total of 59.295% xp on an cleave than enlighten ehh... someone needs to check my math and then go determine the opportunity cost of leveling gems vs selling them. TL;DR " " |

Enlighten is fine! So leave it alone!
A woman needs 9 months to make a child. According to you it will take only 1 month for 9 women to make a child. Enlighen can help you to level up your gems a bit faster but it's not a must have gem and was not intended to be one on the first place. Leave it be an option as it is now. It still has a huge potential. |

I've been using enlighten for a while now, and the 10% increase just doesn't seem like enough.
Even when I'm impatiently trying to level up a skill gem, it's not worth it. Last edited by maxg#1248 on Feb 11, 2014, 7:20:52 PM
