Power Creep?

My thoughts are that if you want tiers of item go play WoW. There is nothing more boring than needing 40,000 vitality and 56,000 strength on a level 496 item to progress. That's the direction Jay Wilson started to take with D3 and why it was such a letdown to so many people (anything other than ilevel 63 item is not a useable item, and I'd venture a guess than when their expansion is released, anything less than ilevel 64, etc will also not be useable). PoE makes our decisions and crafting mean something, and allows us to use a level 1 item (Quill Rain) to be not only viable but possibly dominant in end-game if you're built for it. Things like that arent possible when a game is all about stacking numbers that scale to the N'th degree indefinitely

GGG please keep doing what you do so well and ignore these terrible ideas.

This is really early to talk about, but how will power creep affect Path of Exile?

I doubt it will affect it at all, they have been good at nerfing stuff so far if something became too "required".
Nothing to see here.

Just because the ladders are shorter means the game will "DEFINITELY" die out?

not seeing the logic
Replaying a game annually is nothing. A lot of people replay some classics annually and they are still fun. Triannually is different. For example, Elf is hilarious every year when they play it on TV in December, but The Goonies gets old when you watch it every few months.

Yeah, I guess that's why World of Warcraft was also such a flop as well. Jeez, they keep putting out these new raids/restarting arena seasons every few months and my old gear becomes obsolete, who would want to play that long term?!
I don't play WoW, but it sounds like you're talking about NEW content. I was saying it gets boring replaying OLD content.
Absolutely ruined Dark Age of Camelot for me. Every 'expansion' would make the previous stuff obsolete. Was very easy to cancel my subscription and never look back.

The new areas of Act III and the new monsters therein are a bad sign that creep is going to be a major problem in this game as well. We'll see next year when the new act is added... I hope it's not out of whack with the rest of the game.
the fact that 80 to 100 is a massive grind leaves room for items that are level 75+ to be better than all current items and not create some crazy jump in power. That is because the expansions can be designed for those levels where you need to upgrade equipment. This already happens where we see gear checks while leveling.

Besides, the fact that they aim for build diversity means that items don't have to be "more powerful" anyway, they just have to do something different. Let's let the game run for a while before we start trying to predict when there will be a power creep.

My guess is that, PoE will not age well power creep wise. There is already a tremendous power difference between a total newbie and 2 year old veteran. This will only get bigger and bigger as the game grows and more acts are present.

But this is not the real problem. Most online rpgs and mmos are more or less works like that. The real problem is that, it is already frustrating to reach max level; so a new level cap is pretty much out of question.

This leaves us with better ilvl items and that is pretty much unavoidable imo. Given the fact that game is hardcore, item checks are frequent and frequency of "phat loot" is very scarce it points to it will be much harder for future new players to get any good loot compared to now.

(See legacy uniques. Making a legacy(more powerful) and new(weaker) version of already present items only favors older players; hence contributes to power creep even further.)

Except GGG controls the experience curve and how much XP is granted. They could easily increase the cap to 120, and either make Act 4 mobs worth a ton more XP or tweak the XP curve. Sure, it sucks for people who are already super high level, but many of them will probably re-roll into the new league that is almost guaranteed to coincide with the release of a new act or level cap raise.

The real problem with raising level cap is the all-in-one tree. Depending on its arrangement you can end up building way OP characters. At the very least adding another realistic 20 points will make most builds much stronger, and could make possible some crazy builds that are currently unattainable.
I think adding another 20 passive points is less a problem of being able to build OP characters and more about players not having to make meaningful choices when planning out their build anymore. Want Iron Reflexes? You can reach it! Eldritch Battery? That too! Need 500% increased crit chance from the passive tree? There's some nice nodes near the Shadow area as well as the Marauder area!

It would make the starting point even less relevant than it is already (most builds I see could easily change one character's starting nodes for another character's starting nodes).

Lots of things going at once...

I heard that they want Act 4 to be potentially done by a player simultaneously along side Act 3.

What should happen for high level characters and players that sniff at resetting leagues? Make you able to Prestige/character reset with perks, but only for hardcore characters which entitles you to send that character to the start of a new league at level 1.
