Power Creep?

If it's a game designed to have you rerun the whole thing every four months, then it will DEFINITELY die out. People will get bored over time.

Wasn't/Isn't that exactly what Diablo 2 was/is? People played ladders in that for years and years and years, and maybe still do? I'm not sure what the status of that game is currently, but it wouldn't surprise me. Ladders are a good thing. Plus, D2 never had little twists in each ladder. Granted, I'm concerned about GGG one-upping each ladder league...sooner or later they will add so much stuff that it will be too convoluted to play, but I'll guess we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

yeah, that's why Diablo 2 was a total flop, right?
It had seasons lasting from six months to a year or more though.

You have that, plus the ladders in D2 were a lot longer.

Is it really that bad to have to level a new character in FIVE YEARS?

You somehow managed to make a game sound like a career.

*But i get the point on the power creep.
It probably won't take five years. I don't know yet how fast GGG will be with new content. They're just out of Beta.

Just because the ladders are shorter means the game will "DEFINITELY" die out?

not seeing the logic
Replaying a game annually is nothing. A lot of people replay some classics annually and they are still fun. Triannually is different. For example, Elf is hilarious every year when they play it on TV in December, but The Goonies gets old when you watch it every few months.

I don't know if you just started playing upon release, or if this is just a new account...but I've been watching how GGG operates for almost a year, others much longer...they do seem to develop with a steady hand, and they seem to take much deliberation in everything to do.

I don't really draw a line between beta and release. To me, having played since the beginning of OB, it's just stages of continual development. They'll continue to release content, but where a new zone in an MMO can obsolete an old zone for gear purposes or whatnot, Act 5 won't obsolete Act 2, you'll still have to go through both and upgrade gear that has level requirements. Sure twink gear will always exist, but that's half the fun of having a high lv character find gear for your low lv...

There is still a lot of room for zone levels to rise for Act4 etc.
At that point Cruel and Merciless will need some rebalancing though, so Act1 cruel/merciless is not too easy compared to the previous Act4.
