Any news on improving the network code?
I know that you said you were going to spend some time on it during christmas but I was just wondering if you made any head way with it so far? My friends pc is pretty bad so its difficult for him to play at the moment. :) 20 days to go! Looking forward to open beta. IGN: BerserkersDeathway

Re. Changes to global chat.
Not sure if it is doable but players need to have 'global chat privileges' which can be disabled without fully having to ban the player account. That way GGG can moderate chat, warn, then revoke global chat privileges for all the idiots and losers that completely spoil the experience. My experience of global chat, though very limited, has been a mixed bag. The best experience was during an open stress-test weekend where I think the chat was more moderated and there were more GGG staff online. The chat was friendly, helpful and relevant. Othertimes? Not so much... Can be full of insults and totally off topic (I remember a number of people ranting back and forth about american politics for a while one day...). Hence I have always found myself divided about enabling or disabling global chat. Some heavy moderation and disabling of global chat privileges (if coded in) would seem to improve the situation. Just remember, once a whole lot more people join in the quality of the chat is likely to go down hill fast, as it does in so many other games... which is a shame because PoE is a neat game and deserves a great community around it. |

" How can anything be "off topic" in general chat? Honestly, I agree that there needs to be more moderation (which GGG has been working on). Since there's only 1 channel currently, if the topic starts to sway into a direction you do not wish to discuss (but is not racial, ethnic, yada yada) I see no harm. It is a general chat afterall. If you do not approve, turn off chat and wait. |
