Again, what is the objective value of a Koam's Heart?
Well, obviously I am playing a hack and slash, and you are playing a different game.
Please use http://webcdn.pathofexile.com/downloads/PathOfExileInstaller.msi to download the latest installer for a great action RPG hack and slash game where you kill monsters with powerful weapons.
What does that have to do with what I just said? I asked you a very simple question.
Well I asked you to download the appropriate game. If it is too complicated I could prepare you a youtube tutorial on installing Path of Exile if that would help?
I will take the risk and describe it to you, like, in written words:
First of all you gotta download the msi file using the link above... Then you install the game on you PC. It's quite easy, just click "next" or "use default settings".
Finally, when you're up and running, you can 'log into', that is provide your username and password via game's client. Please remember not to share your password with anyone, GGG staff will never ask you for it!
The game itself allows for creating a fantasy-themed characters. Those characters are exiles on a dangerous island filled with zombies, demons, crazy bandits, etc. You name it.
While playing this game you quite naturally come to the conculsion, that it's either you, or them. THEM, monsters. Everywhere. Trying to bite your head off, stab you in the gust, burn you to crisp.
Then... gradually, you gain experience. With experience comes power. Soon you know you need equipment - magical weapons, armour, wands, gems, etc. to be even more powerful and slay even bigger monsters.
So please try playing a hack and slash game, it will make you understand why you should be awarded with powerful items and not currency. You won't bash a demon's head with a fistul of exalted orbs.
PS
The experience of playing a hack and slash game is vastly different from a trading simulator. Please bear that in mind.

What? You obviously didn't understand my post.
My point is that no item has an objective value, any perceived value of an item in this game is subjective. There are different subjective approaches by which we can assess the value of an item. We can assess the value of an item by it's utility, prestige, rarity or a combination of all of the above. You are saying that the only viable value judgement that actually gives an item it's true value is utility. I'm saying that's bullshit.
I understood just fine.
As I see it there is 2 types of values, there is the actual value as in "this can be used for something" or "if I where an exile stranded in wraeclast with nothing but my undergarments and zombies attacking me, this would make my day a lot better"
Then there is the sentimental value, this exists when people have too much or too little of something, it's the reason why you can find stamps or whiskey worth thousands, sometimes millions. They'll do jack shit in a zombie apocalypse, but in a world where you have millions and only need thousands, it's worth something to someone, if for no other reason, then just because.
I'm saying the race rewards belong to the 2nd, their value lies in being a 1time reward rather than being useful. most of these items have little to no value above what they vendor for if it wasn't because they where marked by this season 5 icon.
And that is a problem because? This isn't just true for Path of Exile, this is also true in the real world. Some things are worth alot even if they are incredibly useless and some things aren't worth shit even if they are incredibly useful (food is really cheap, but it's incredibly useful, without food you would die, how can it be so cheap? That's outrageous!)
You see where that argument gets you? Absolutely nowhere.

Good job Chris, was a good reading
Again, I don't get the point of most posts in this topic.
In the 90's when I grew up, if you didn't like Metallica, you just didn't listen to them.
Nowadays kids go post QQ and hate on every single article they can find about the band just to tell others how much they hate them.
Must be a real pain for those at GGG to read all that shit after putting so much effort in what they do.
Well they're not blind and as they make this ARPG they have played others as well and have read a lot of the QQ about those games as well. As devs I think you learn to read only the genuine messages. The world has become 90% QQ, but devs get money from them as well so I guess they can bare the fact they are 90% on this forum as well.
This doesn't mean I like it, I think the world is mentally screwed. Maybe a good typhoon on those kids houses would change their attitude a bit, I don't know...

Which is why I used real life examples in my post. And it's not a problem on my behalf, I just voiced my opinion about the guy being right when he said the rewards where shit, because they are.
The fact that you seem to be really adamant about random visual shit being extremely valuable is just fine for you I guess. But as the other guy said, some of us is playing this game as a hack and slash.
I guess it's pretty awesome for ggg that people like you exist, must be earning a fortune from giving their pixels a shiny glow at the small price of 1000$.

I never paid 1000$ for anything in this game. And I agree that the rewards aren't very good compared to the rewards in previous seasons.
But that's not the point. An alternate art demi is worth 30 ex because that's what people pay for it. Doesn't matter why they do it. What gives these items their value is the prestige and rarity of them. And the person who said that these things are worthless is simply wrong. If people are willing to pay 30 ex+ for these items they simply aren't worthless, by definition.
Any item in this game (or in the real world) only has it's value because people pay that much for it. Kaom's Heart objectively isn't worth anything (0), not a single cent, the only reason it's worth as much as it is, is that people value it subjectively.

Well ain't it another ScrotieMcB. "Let's write a 3-screen long post with 5 MS Excel calculated tables with optimization for the new gem that would subjectively be very intersting to play if the stars align themselves right, and you tie a red ribbon to your left hand. And if I only have time between posting 20 3-screen long posts a day I will surely test this build also by playing it!".
No, screw that. It. Is. Hack. And. Slash.
Big swords GOOOD.
Currency BAAAD.
YOU GO SMASH SOME MONSTER HEADS NAO, you understand what is hack and slash, then we talk.

ok, let me rephrase then, the rewards have close to 0 value for anyone who plays this as a hack'n'slash and not a trading simulator with a small element of monster slaying.

You might not, but I do, and judging by the vast amount of posts you've made, you do too. Either that, or you have a very unusual way of not caring.
