For all those who don't agree with restores in extremely rare cases imagine this happens to you like it did to us:

You login and load up your character.
You enter a zone.
You walk 10 feet and die.

It's not as if connection issues or desync killed our characters. People reported getting 1 shot from off the screen lol.

Anyone who's played ARPGs with permadeath for a few years (or even months, really) probably knows this feeling. Mostly due to lag, but other factors out of our control as well. It's just part of hardcore. Sometimes you just have bad luck or other factors outside of the game that are completely outside of your control, and your level 99 character with all the uber gear is lying facedown in the grass. That's just hardcore. That's the essence of hardcore. Sometimes bad things happen to good players. Even to the best top 1% players.

Hardcore was never promised as a mode where you only lose your character if you mess up, or you aren't skilled enough. It's a brutal, unforgiving mode where death, ANY death, is supposed to be final, irreversible, no bargains, no takebacks, no mercy. To go back on that is to disregard what hardcore means.

I understand that GGG's heart is in the right place. Obviously, it sucks to lose your character when you didn't do anything wrong, and I'm sure they felt guilty especially considering it was a bug so close to the official game release. But in my opinion, it's a mistake, and it only tells me that the people in charge don't get the point of hardcore.

This was beautiful, Absolutely beautiful. Almost shed a tear.

why are you making this such a huge deal? How long was the patch even live before the bug was found and corrected?

hmmm, no deal. i quite like the fact that hardcore players became "hardcore"-players as it effectively killes the elitist attitude of some of their members.

and, secondly: to be honest, i'm angry because i have the alpha status but neither access nor any info.

Holy cow you guys should take this thing less serious and stop playing annoying drama queens just for the sake of being annoying.

It's just disgusting to see how so many of you have that "hate-attitude" towards anything you could possibly hate.

If it was happening to you, you would all be grateful.

It's a friggin game, we play it for fun remember?

They made the right choice, no question. This was not your typical bug. It was the first update after release, with many new players around, where a common enemy was doing absolutely insane damage (I'm talking insane damage). Good move.

I got lucky, didn't rip to them but came very close. I ran past then after that, knowing something was wrong (I keep global off).

I just imagine if skeletons would do 10000 instead of the 100 ish damage they normally do, caused by a bug. Every HC player would die, who doesnt use global or read the forums every 30 mins or so. Its just a monster we all got used to and we know what to expect.

Same with the queens imo, i dont know anybody who wouldnt just get in his face and kill it. If you have like 5k hp and 80 res and 8% LL, no way you would take 1 ball just to see if the damage isnt too high today.

People whining a lot about HC, but you can almost work around every "problem". desync --> dont use high mobility skills, use oos, get better computer. client freeze --> alt f4 now.
Not much you can do about undocumented damage buffs.

Imo its a dangerous road, cause where is the line now? But in this case the only right decision without pissing of many players.

I just died from a normal white Carrion Queen mob in a 67 map as a 78 character :D I'm not sure if it's just the coincidence of all coincidences or if there was something wrong with the fix

The map mods were x chaos dmg per sec and LMP. Not sure whether they do attacks or spells, but if it's an attack then I had Ondar's Guile and if it's a spell then I had Phase Acrobatics and 74% spell block. All that with 4k HP and 80% fire resist. I dunno, i've never experienced white Carrion Queens as particularly tough enemies, but i was dropped before I could react :D
Im not sure but LMP Queens shoots like 3 + 3 projectiles? lmp alchemist aint a joke either
Bust a move!
