Maybe everyone who dies should be restored, or maybe remove permadeath completly, just introduce steeper xp loss in hardcore..
I mean honestly what is the point of hardcore if your character might be arbitrarily restored based on the whim of an admin?

WTF!?
I am sorry, but this is a load of crap, didn't the screen say when you create a character on HC/nemesis say that you can never have a restore for ANY reason, why start now? I had a spot where I got fucked because of a bug, I manned up and rerolled anyways, why change this stance now? I get that it is BS that people lost their characters to this, but what about everyone else from before that had to man up from a loss due to bug and had to reroll?
This is seriously a really disappointing reversal of a long standing stance on this .. I really don't like where this is heading. (No offense to anyone who formerly lost their characters to this bug, but it's more the point of suddenly changing this stance now) Why now GGG why? This sort of stuff on a long standing way to deal with this stuff now is a big factor on how people will lose faith in this system. :/
Really really confused at this point now, changing this stance has made me really question the future of the game.
Being envious is bad for you. Just be happy for those who do not have to suffer as you had to. It's a tough exercise but in the end it will pay off: reduced risk of stomach ulcer, less likely to suffer a heart attack. Consider it to be mental workout.

I'm sure if any of these people complaining logged onto their characters being dead in the center of town they would just accept it. They wouldn't want to compromise the integrity of the zero tolerance policy that was in effect during beta.

If we introduced a bug in a patch where say casting Grace Aura instantly killed you, we would react quickly to fix it and then restore the characters.
These exceptions are extremely rare and can only occur in situations where we screwed up over a short timeframe in a way that can be tracked perfectly to restore exactly the right people.
If we're doing our job properly, this type of bug would never hit the live realm and no such measure would ever be needed.
I absolutely hate the idea of restoring characters. It took hours for us to come to terms with this one-off restoration. I am not happy about this situation at all.
For the players who deleted their character, please email support@grindinggear.com.
You should not feel bad cause you did the right thing. Screw all people saying you should never restore, you have stand behind your mistake and corect it.
Thats what grown up do.

You certainly did right.
Keep it up!

'Please note that Hardcore characters can not be restored for any reason (including game bugs or internet lag). Are you sure you want to create one?
I haven't lost a character I haven't deliberately gone out to kill so it isn't sour grapes or anything like that. I just feel the worst thing a game developer could do is be inconsistent, it is not like there haven't been tens of thousands of deaths due to bugs already.
I think someone who dies in the future to a post patch bug and doesn't get restored would have reason to feel that it is a little unfair.
I think that policy has allowed GGG to avoid a lot of heat in the past, by doing this act it kind of breaches the golden rule of hardcore, no restorations for any reason. GGG can't now say they never restore, which will probably result in an influx of butthurt nancy boys who have lost a character because they were too slow to alt-f4 out.
I don't really care about the players restored, power to them, i just feel it will create angst for GGG now and into the future because of the decision.
Consistency is the key imo.

What envy has to do with this?
People are sad that GGG just destroyed their reputation with this deciision. Its not about players, its about what they will turn back on next.
People aweare that this can someday turn into this:

Looks unlikely? Remmeber what fanboys were writing in threads where people asked a restoration their characters due to a bug/desync/whatever. Tis is HC. Go back to D3, man up and reroll. Read what you are writing now.

They explained their reasoning behind the decision and you and others alike pretty much shit on this. It is not about reputation (GGG restored a character due to their own fault in the past), you just want to vent.
You should be able to understand what people think of you and your comrades now.

So many people making a big deal out of nothing. At the end of the day It's Just A Fucking Game stop acting like its fucking armageddon. Characters were restored in Hardcore, GGG apologised, life goes on and so does Poe.
Return to this flameless sunder
Where exiles burn and the joyless wander;
Frozen lore beneath chaotic thunder,
Dominus returns to send us under.
