Socket color / Chromatic Orb issue

I can sympathize with you, but no thanks. That's why there's Tabula Rasa, so at least ppl who don't play everyday will eventually be able to buy that robe for a fair price (~1.5 ex).

If you wanna use different combination of colors, but not able to gamble on your "super" gear, so buy Tabula Rasa then! Until you find another drop with these colors and 5 or 6 sockets available for you to craft it.

There are plenty of better ways around it to save your currency a bit.

(btw I still want new recipe for white socket, so i'm not against that suggestion)

Maybe a more expensive version of the chromatic that can be clicked on an individual slot of an item to roll the collour. Make them a vendor recipe or buyable from vendors, put in ten chromatics in the sell window and get a precise chromatic orb that allows you to roll the color of a specific socket.

It would still be random which collour you get and quite costly to get a specific combination, but at least you'd be able to keep the sockets you want to keep and create a proper possiblity to get the sockets the right collour. Instead of the I just spend 800+ chromatics and still haven't gotten the combination I need for my ability.
this! Only it should be more expensive (to prevent chromatic to loose to much value)
Not sure if this has already been mentioned before, however i believe the Socket Colour system uses this format or something similar.

For example if the item is not a hybrid type, but pure Strength, than it uses this system.

For Strength type items and if you are trying to get 6 colour setup. Every socket has about a 50% chance of being red, meannwhile blue & green would each have 25% of occurring, for combined total of 100% chance to get any colour.

So just say you wanted 6 red sockets, the odds would be .50^6= 0.015625 or 1 in 64 chance of occuring.

Now just say you wanted 6 green gems in this Str type item, the odds would be .25^6= 0.000244140625 or 1 in 4096.

so once again if it is a red gem, in an strength type item, each socket would have about a 50% chance of occurring meanwhile blue & green each have 25%.

Now just say you wanted 3 reds and 3 blues, the formula would be .50^3 x .25^3= 0.001953125 or 1 in 512 chance of occuring.

What about hybrid type items now? OK, Just say you have an item with INT & DEX.

Now each green socket and blue socket would have a 37.5% chance of occurring and both combined would = 75% leaving only 25% chance of a red socket occurring, totally 100% chance of getting any colour for a socket. Here is where it gets a little tricky because it doesn't give a simple rounded value and odds might be slightly off, but to keep things simple here is a basic idea

so just say you wanted 6 green sockets the odds would be .375^6= 0.002780914306640625 or about 1 in 360.

Once again if you wanted 6 reds sockets on a INT/DEX type item it would be .25^6 or 1 in 4096 chance of occuring.

So if you want to figure out your colour socket odds, find out what item type it is first than calculate what the odds of each socket colour is and multiple them to get the odds.

There is 4096 total possible colour combinations with 6 sockets using this format.

This system is f*cked up. I want for a THREE socket item two combinations of nine, thats should be a chance of 1/4.5, I have spent 30 Chromatic Orbs on this. This drives me crazy. Why isn't it possible to buy socket color change in the village? I would be willing to pay many Chromatic Orbs for my socket color change!

Right on point! This unlogical lottery destroys the game.

To me it just is a gigantic sink of time and currency that keeps me from playing and enjoying the game. I realize GGG wants to maximize gameplay time so that they get more micro-transactions but this just seems completely upside down to me. I think more players would play if it wasn't such a cluster ^&*^ to get the combo you need. The only things I can see becoming a problem is if it became trivial to get 6 linked but even then it should be orders of magnitude than it is now. The linking lotteries people are running are farcical. Here is what I would suggest:

1. Jewelers give the max number of sockets an item can have up to 4 automatically. 10% chance for 5 sockets, 2% for 6. 6 socket capable items never have less than 4 from use of a jewelers.

2. Add a recipe to guarantee a certain combination of colors is rolled (probably using gems)

OR add a reasonable currency white socket recipe to the game

3. Change fusings so they give 3 link 100% of the time, 4 link 33% of the time, and change 5 and 6 linking to have a percentage to add an additional link once it is 4 linked. Once 4 linked the item never goes below 4 link. Something like 4% to add a 5th link, and .5% to add a 6th. Once 5 linked it does not lose the 5 link with further fusings.

How would this not only make the game more fun to play?

GGG seriously needs to overhaul the "crafting" system. I don't see how the current system adds anything positive to the game. If it was not for the truly superb skill tree/skill gem system, the orb system would be enough for me to stop playing.

I actually like the idea of having one socket chrome
Make it as rare as and exalt, so who want to craft of color let him collect 50 exes and craft
Yep, it's pure gambling, today i found this mace(it's not as good as my current, but i decided to use it for some IIR and i just needed one blue socket)

After 1 chromatic:
