Further Update to Map-only Uniques

My problem is that I feel that the higher maps are not realistically obtainable for a person who primarily plays solo and doesn't do extensive trading. From what I understand, using large amounts of currency (exalted orbs, etc) on maps is almost mandatory at the high end. That is something that is prohibitively expensive for a solo player. I've got multiple level 80+ characters, and the highest maps I ever run are a few 72-73's, then I'm back running 66-68's. That essentially means, to me, that the best drops are forever barred from me just because I don't run in a six-man faceroll group sharing the expense of items then selling the raw white items on the AH to fuel more map construction. I just play the game.

The items I really want to get - Thunderfist, Void Battery, Votaxic Rift - just aren't ever going to be reachable. It doesn't matter how good my build is, how much I play, or what level my character is, with the current system I don't foresee ever being able to do 75+ maps, because I can't afford to spend exalted orbs on maps. And that is frustrating beyond words.

I love the passive tree, the challenge of making new builds, and the concept behind the endgame, but every time I start playing again after a break, I level a new toon or two, get to 75-80, run maps for awhile, hit a brick wall, and quit. I went through this exact process back in May, and now I'm doing it all over again. It's frustrating, and I'm already feeling the pointlessness of grinding maps again, knowing a bad streak of luck will send me back to the 66's to start all over, having never reached a point where I could see the highest content. Now, with items being locked to the maps I never get, it's even worse.

PLEASE change the map system somehow, so that challenge is the determining factor of running endgame maps, not currency availability.

i know im talking to deaf ears , it feels like i always am but i would recommend you to look at lower level maps as Mf areas , just farm them for fun and build a solid base of maps , keep on doing this while going slowly upwards and replay your lowerlevel maps that drop once a week or so.
after a while you have a humongous mappool which does not run out as the lower level maps will keep on growing.

for me this is the most fun way to play and makes it so i don't have to invest so much currency in getting higher level maps
TBh too much bitching about drops. As for me map drop rate is a bigger problem, i'm using cash to buy maps and hover between 71-74 map lvl. Bump up map drop rates seriously, at least up to lvl 73 maps or smth, becouse for solo players rolling maps and buying them is too expensive while groupplay is powerrangers lazer spam. I've no clue why GGG is promoting group play where playing majority of builds sucks and groupplay is easier itself with ppls cross-buffing auras, applying shocks etc.

This is very good update in my opinion. I am high lvl and quite wealthy but i have to agree that the drops must able to get from low level non map areas since thats the only way to climb up from poverty in such inflated market. Making these uniques only map drops feels idiotic since its to make rich people richer which isnt good thing. These high level maps cost 6 exalted for example lvl 78 map. How new players or mid class people can manage to get that extra curency to do these maps if there arent any ways to get rich than mapping.
Yup, map loot drop is not the only issue here. Fair enough, that is addressed first by GGG due to feedback. Not getting the same level map drop as the map you are running is not good. Spending a whole lot of currency on maps does not equate to what players get in return after running maps.
And again, another stupid update to make the game easier and more noob friendly.

What's so bad in finding the highest tier of uniques in map only? they are supposed to be hard to find, damn.

This game is making the exact same mistakes of D3: listening to the continuos casual wines. Over and over again, i'm tired to see every game ruined by casuals. I want the game to be hard, to be HARDCORE like GGG states, i want the best drops to be hard to find or only droppable in high level content (and thus hard to find)

Why always this policy of "everyone are equal"... NO damn, if you can't farm 70+ maps you deserve to not have the very best equip. and Don't say that items like Kaoms/shav are NEEDED for 72+ maps because is not true, and you know it. Maps until 72-73 can be done with a 4L.

SCREW THIS now i'm pissed

basicly what he said, I feel like the highest tier drops on 78 is abit high maybe lowering the levels of the highest drops might be a little better.

but if you allow koam/shav + all the best gear to drop at docks/dominus then everything just becomes less rewarding. basicly now if you find one of those items your rewarded and your gg and your rich, after the patch it means all those items become common and worthless in a few weeks then more people gonna bitch and quit.

Calm your pants dude. They arent stupid you know. Ofc they will balance the drop rate of the kaoms as they make it easier to get. The amount of high level uniques in game is just going to be the same as if it was only map uniques. After this patch thry will make it so that those uniques will not be on the hands of billioexalres but in hands of poor people who makes most of it.
moving high end uniques to map only drops was basically gonna be what killed the game for me.

I am a person that prefers to solo.
I just haven't found many people that play when I do, or play as a group.
public groups last about 10 minutes before people run in 6 different directions, all trying to be the leader, and no one ever killing anything cause they have 2k DPS, and were doing public groups to be carried.

the best item I have ever found was about 2 months ago, I had a Kaoms Heart BP drop just before the gate to the stair way leading up to piety.
when it happened, I stopped and gawked at the game for a good 2 minutes, speechless, and got up and went into the other room to get my brother and show him that yes, in fact a unID'd unique glorious plate had dropped.... and we both knew what that meant.
it was as exciting to him to know such a sought after item could drop anywhere, and that made him as hyped to play as it was for me.
it greatly enhanced my drive to farm and keep playing, and my brother was as happy for me as I was.
it was a fun day.

knowing the highest end gear is being limited to only players that can afford to run the highest end maps would have removed any incentive to keep playing - because the vast majority of unique items in this game are nearly worthless as is, so knowing I have little to no chance of getting something truly cool... is a game killer in every sense of the word for me.

I can solo maps up to about 72 or so, but maps at that range become so rare its hard to keep the momentum, I get 2-3 of higher maps, run them - then get no maps from it.
so the momentum stops... so I am always back to solo farming easy stuff.
I am sure I could keep moving up on what maps I can solo and with what character, but the fact is, they are just too rare for me to keep that momentum, so even if I want to, I know eventually I will be back to soloing some easy zone for materials or maps.... and knowing at the same time, I have ZERO chance of getting a fun or exciting unique again... is all I need to basically push me out of this game.
In my opinion, all uniques should be available from all sources provided the sources have enough ilvl to drop that item.

What will make the difference between the map drop and normal drop is the chance to roll a high quality uniques.

To introduce key variables to an unique, such as +300-500HP for a Kaom's Heart (currently only the fire dmg is variable, I think it is not enough), so the chance to get a KH outside a map is low but still possible, but the chance to get a 500HP perfect Kaom's Heart outside the map should be 0%

It is WIN-WIN for both map and non-map runners, isn't it?

And more variables = we will never really know the unique quality until we identify it, even if we already know it is "a unique glorious plate", it may still be just a "normal", or "super" or "near perfect" or "perfect" kaom's heart, this will create a sense of adventure.

This mechanism worked in D2 as well.
