Wow!
I mean you can't beat minecraft, at least not yet. Or maybe never because it is just a game for pretty much everyone and everyone makes let's plays for it on youtube.
But the other ones are only horror games which become boring after you played them through. So I guess after OB release Path of Exile has a good chance to be #2.

As long as no other awesome indie developer comes up with a fantastic game.
#4 =/ Need more votes

I don't even see how this becomes an argument at all, you don't send a half finished film to be judged for the oscars. Who would?

IndieDB awards are hardly Oscars -- you'd be looking at far more predictable titles in that case. Something a little more mainstream. Something from, say, IGN.

Although still a flawed comparison, consider IndieDB awards a form of Cannes. People send unfinished films to Cannes all the time. Apocalypse Now was screened/judged at Cannes in an unfinished form and still won the Golden Palm. People send stuff to Cannes before they have a distributor, and thus can be considered 'indie', although many of them are trying hard to escape the indie scene in picking up a distributor.

So...hm, yeah. Try to think about this in that way. Unfinished films in a viewable state can be judged at Cannes, unfinished/unreleased indie games that are playable can be judged by Indie awards.

Sometimes I think I should make a negative, cynical post just to see if the lead dev will respond directly to me too. He's amazing, he really is. No PR dudes shaping his posts, no yes men answering the negative attention in his stead. And of course people take that for granted.

...Amazing.
https://linktr.ee/wjameschan -- everything I've ever done worth talking about, and even that is debatable.
Video games aren't art like film is. Or at least, not yet. Sending unfinished work to be judged is necessary, as awards can impact sales, or at least they can generate a little news. BioWare's SWTOR won over 10 awards a year before it was released or even had a closed/open beta.
