Build of the Week, Season 2 Episode 2 Build Submission Thread

[Update 10/28] Just found out I can stun Vaal in Cruel!!!(using a Geofri's.) I interrupted his slam twice!

Meet the "Unstoppable Force" Marauder by the name of mfJustice

Passive Skill progression
My Marauder build is a very simple early Blood-Magic build that has an early focus on increasing your life-pool and physical damage before grabbing Blood Drinker and Blood Magic. Around level 25 or so you shift focus toward stunning and mace damage. Picking up Resolute Technique notable adds the very satisfying "always-stun" factor to the build. 2-handed maces are the obvious choice for stunning due to their high damage and implicit stun affixes.

Skill Gem options
As for skill-gems, you would use Heavy Strike as your primary single target, and Ground Slam as your primary aoe attack. Both moves have added stun mods and both are available right away. Enduring Cry, Decoy Totem, Added Fire Damage, and Life-on-Hit are all great pick-ups in Act 2. Picking up Stun support gem allows you to stun even Unique monsters. You can get Enduring Charge on Stun in Act 3 to help keep charges up. Picking up Warlord's Mark in Act 2 and then Curse on Hit in Act 3 allows you to have life-leech before getting the life-leech support gem in Cruel Act 1. In Cruel Act 1, you can pick up Vulnerability after beating Hillock. Attach this to Curse-on-Hit(and heavystrike/groundslam), and you will be doing much more damage and much longer stuns.

Equipment
Up until this point, the only real item affixes you need on items is life and resistances. Anything else is just icing. You don't even need to choose a specific defense type(armor,es,ev.) Around Cruel Act 2, you may want to shift focus toward armor or armor/es as a primary defense type so you can tank some of the heavy hitting monsters like weaver and the sins guardian. I run 4 life flasks and a quicksilver. Sapping life flasks have their "10%-taken from mana" drawback negated!

Key Components
  • Heavy Strike
  • Ground Slam
  • 2-Handed Mace
  • Blood Magic(notable passive-node)
  • Resolute Technique(notable passive-node)
  • Gear with life and some resistances

Why this build is Awesome!
  • Getting into Blood-Magic early means you only have to focus on one resource instead of two!
  • Because heavy-strike and ground-slam use very little mana, you stay borderline full-life at all times
  • 4-5 Life-flasks! Sapping flasks are SUPER EFFECTIVE!
  • Early-game Resolute Technique means you always hit and almost always stun! So satisfying! No need to worry about accuracy!
  • Stun even the biggest, baddest of baddies with reduced threshold nodes and Stun-support gem!
  • You can use Curse-on-Hit with Warlord's Mark in Piety and Dominus fights!
  • Gear-choices are simple: Life and some resistance
  • All gems are easily available by quest reward

Spoiler
Unique 2H maces:
Hrimnor's Hymn Sledgehammer 2-3 chaos in Nemesis as of writing
Geofri's Baptism Brass Maul 5-6 chaos in Nemesis as of writing
Right now I am level 38 in my build and deciding whether to add more flavor with the likes of, "cannot evade, cannot be stunned"(Immovable Object!) and "life regeneration applies to Energy Shield." I am also seriously considering speccing into the readily available/nearby aura nodes, but not until I have a comfortable amount of life and ES, which comes in mid-late game.

This seems rather pointless - unless you're just leveling them for kicks. I think you meant smoke mine :)

Woops thanks for the catch editing now

NO DEATH INFERNAL MARAUDER:

easy build no uniques high survivability marauder:
(only attack is infernal blow)

aura: NONE (i know you are saying WTF right now, no aura??!!! but trust me, with this build it works)
keystones: resolute technique/iron reflexes
primary passives to look for: armor, axe dmg and speed, 1h dmg and speed, resistances, life, and of course some base str/dex stat ones.
gear to look for: high armor/eva res gear, life, attack speed, LEECH (mana is good, life is needed)
uniques of choice: (note: i still use the belt at 65 it works well) Wurm's molt, slitherpinch, peregrine visor sallet, aurseize (all in the 1-2 chaos range on perm servers for decent roll)
optimal linking skills: infernal blow/multistrike/lifeleech/melee splash/faster attacks, cast on damage take/rejuv totem/molten shell/blood rage, cast on damage taken/portal/lightning strike. (other skills will still fit, fill as you desire, if you find 6L to go with infernal blow combo add reduced mana or life gain on hit)

summary:
INSANE ATTACK SPEED, this is the focus of the build for the dps end. rack up your speed as high as possible on infernal blow, keep blood rage going as much as possible, eat up the life leech and use rejuv totem to stopthe damage from the blood rage. uses 1h axe (i use a rare siege axe at 65, used lower tier axes earlier, speedier is better) offhand = shield for more survivability. i personally use chernobog atm, will be going to lioneye's remorse at 70, but rare shields could actually work better now that the defence on the unique ones are dropped.
portal allows you an out at all times so you don't have to die, you just see your hp almost empty portal the hell outta dodge :) saves your xp in cruel and merciless. the rest is all support for a little extra dps/survivability. only hard to find item in the lot is multistrike, which i feel will be easy now that it's a quest gem.
note from the builder:
(i have used my build without editting even thru the patch, besides addition of the cast on damage taken combos since i started the character. release day patch forced me to move 2 dex passives, but they were replaced with the same quality passives) since level 30 i have maintained a rough cap pdmg reduction and res until i recently replaced resistance rings with andvarius farming rings. this is a good starter build and i would love to see it shared with everyone. the gear for it is cheap (my gear at lvl 65 cost me less than 2 exalts total!!!!)and the build is really simple, but surprisingly effective!

this build negates the drawback of high mana cost auras, and focuses on putting out the most damage while maintaining survivability. it's awesome because you don't need aura's going, there is only 1 skill you have to actually use, and IT DOESN'T LET YOU DIE! as long as you pay attention you can always escape death thru the portal at your back! also uses the cheapest gears that others consider almost throw away to enable you to have good weapons for your build for cheap prices. my siege axe cost me only a couple chaos, and i have a current attack speed of 0.16 seconds per attack on infernal blow. a comprable effective siege axe for other marauder builds would run in the 5-10 ex range. so this is great for the new player who hasn't had time to build a bank!

edit: after rereading i also noted: portal is also relatively hard to get, but only a few chaos(5-6 last i checked) so not too expensive.

also, should this get picked as the build of the week, anyone who needs help with it can contact me at character name Kuroyukehime or God_of_all or Thortag. have fun all!

Fireball 2.0: Fire Spear Proliferation

Short version: Avatar of Fire + Cold to Fire allows 100% conversion for Ice Spells. Throwing Elemental Proliferation into the mix while stacking Critical Multiplier allows for some pretty powerful long-ranged burns with Ice Spear. I'm still acquiring gems to finalize the character, but the basic setup is there and can be played as planned.

LongVersion
The name (Troubleshat) isn't relevant to the character theme for once.

The character is extremely flexible in how it can be built. The key things to pick up are critical multiplier, burning/spell/fire damage, and of course, defensive nodes (HP and/or ES depending on what you decide) + whatever utility you want to run (for me it would be EB plus large amounts of regen). The tree I went with probably isn't the most efficient, but it suits me more so than any others I came up with. The char could be built many different ways, so don't think this is a set-in-stone way to do it. It could easily be converted to a Shadow, a Scion, a Witch, possibly even a Templar. Like I said, it's very flexible.

Eventually I'd like to get my hands on a Searing Touch staff and a pair of Maligaro's Virtuosity gloves, but for now I'm just using some daggers I found. As far as weapons go, I plan to get the staff crit nodes (see my "Ideal Tree" below) and use Searing Touch, but you could easily go with Wands, Sceptres, or Daggers if you wanted to (adding a shield if preferred). That would allow you to remove the Staff nodes and have some extra points (DEX for daggers, for example).

Unique-wise, it's not gear reliant at all - just maximize life and resists. There are uniques that would work well with the build, but they are by no means necessary. I chose Armor as my secondary defense and ES/Mana for utility, but those can be adjusted at will.

TreeAndGems

Current Tree | Ideal Tree

Ideal setup (gems in italics still need to be acquired):

Ice Spear (for setting up large burning areas from afar):
-Cold to Fire
-Elemental Prolif
-Critical Multiplier

Ice Nova (for weak enemies that get too close):
-Cold to Fire
-Faster Casting
-Life Leech

Fireball (for tankier enemies that get too close):
-Fire Penetration
-Critical Strikes
-Concentrated Effect

Flammability or Elemental Weakness (I'd avoid critical/projectile weakness since they won't help with the mobs that are taking damage indirectly through burns).

Decoy Totem
-Minion + Totem Resists
-Faster Casting

Molten Shell
-When Stunned trigger

-TBD
-TBD

Clarity + Determination or Purity are easy to run together, maybe all three if you have good enough ES gear for Eldritch Battery.

EDIT: I see this idea has already been posted on the previous page. Whoops!

Fireball 2.0: Fire Spear Proliferation

Mmm I've been so tempted to do this with one of my witches, got 90 skill points to work with. Just not sure if I want to commit given I already bricked one of my standard chars and another one turned out mediocre. The only thing turning me off is the crowd control you lose with avatar of fire, and all those fast moving/leaping act 3 mobs getting inside ice spears first form area and fucking shit up.

Hello I'd like to submit my Scion KIIMUIR.

I run a Life based Ethereal Knives build.

I chose this build because it requires no quality gems, and all of the gems used are easily obtainable. The main damage comes from the gems themself, and the Hatred aura, so little specialised gear is required.

The linked gems I use are: Ethereal Knives + Faster Projectiles + Added Fire + Blood Magic.

I plan to add Iron Will and Faster Cast should I get a 5 or 6 linked chest. The Item Rarity can replace Added Fire or Iron Will should you want to try and farm for items, and the Life Leech gem can be used for harder content.

You will need to play as a Shadow or Witch to Mud Flats to get the Ethereal Knives gem however. A quick 5 minutes isn't a bad investment.

The auras I use are Grace and Hatred. With a level 10 Reduced Mana, and the Aura Reservation nodes in the templar tree I was able to run two auras and still have enough Mana to use Enduring Cry and my Curses.

The Curses I use are Projectile Weakness and Vulnerability, both quest rewards. Temporal Chains and Enfeeble are my defensive Curses and also available as quest rewards now!

In my gloves, I have a 4 linked trigger gem set up. I am using Cast when Damage Taken + Summon Skeletons + Molten Shell + Blind. The Cast When Damage Taken is level 12 and triggers when I take 1500 damage. It automatically casts Molten Shell to give me more armour, and two skelly bros pop up to take the heat off me if I need to recover. Blind is a very nice addition for when Molten Shell breaks and hits lots of enemies around me. The Skeletons can also blind enemies they hit. This has been an extremely powerful defensive combo for me so far, along side my Endurance Charges. Unfortunately the Cast When Damage Taken gem is only available in Merciless Act 3, but I was using Cast When Stunned before to a similar effect but it wasn't as reliable.

For the bandits I helped Oak in Normal for the Life, helped him again in Cruel for the Physical Damage, and then helped him AGAIN in Merciless for the Endurance charge. I like Oak.

I am currently level 72 in the new Nemesis league and my current build is this:

http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgAACGe31thNV-GUoPll2mIhw2h0kNb56EGHtz7Grv4KPC3yRedjTP_E9jrhiPGvbMQVJ-2mV6xZxYrz3ayqTeMxnjWS8B9Z8_6PtfIEs6IAwBpuqhRNAnFmnpBVSsj60qeEPycXLzbpHRQaOCpNZOckquNqj0YVIFXWGYXQ0Czpg9uApM9l3Q38S1XGW6-QCvzFznEWb04qZ6BsFimltkGHdkMxSn0byF4ThO907XrvYEsFLQ==

The tree focuses on easily obtainable Life nodes and Life Regeneration so I can use the Blood Magic gem for my main skill. I have 300% maximum Life and 4.7% Life Regen. I have the Keystone Iron Reflexes and the aura Grace as well as a Granite Flask and Molten Shell to give me lots of Armour, and I plan to have 5 Endurance Charges for more flat physical reduction, and capping off Elemental Resists.

This was my tree to level 50:

http://www.pathofexile.com/passive-skill-tree/AAAAAgAACGe31thNV-GUoPll2mIhw2h0kNb56EGHtz7Grv4KPC3yRedjTP_E9jrhiPGvbMQVJ-2mV6xZxYqsqk3jMZ41kvAfWfP-j7XyBLOiAMAabqoUTQJxkFVKyKeEPycaOCpNFSCD2_xLznFsFmae-tI26eNqJKoZhQ==

After which I continued up to get Purity of Flesh and then started down into the Duelist/Ranger area.
