sad part is - if this gem simply grants supported gems extra xp - that it is Yet Another buff to Spellcasters

spellcasters gain huge from leveling their gem 18->19->20 (and beyond with items)

melee.. lets see.. something like 5% increased physical dmg?

i hope it does something else

The gem does NOT grant other gems increased xp, please guys, read the OP. Chris said that this gem has NO effect untill it reaches certain levels (and it has increased xp for itself as a quality bonus), in the screenshot it is on lvl 1.

the op doesnt say what the gem does, so how do you know it does not grant other gems increased xp? Please read the thread.

yeah exatly .. and it wasnt stated if the trigger would be for the gem lvl or the showed exp lvl gain. But showing the exp lvl gain without it being active would be wierd. Therefor everyone was asuming there would be a 2nd effect for the gem lvl itself.

If it has no stat requirement this gem should be white, making it red is just a good way to annoy the hell out of pure evasion characters. Any additonal red gem in your build is an exponentional burden when your equipement is pure dex.

Cleave doesn't have stat requirements until level 4.

A level 1 gem with no stat requirements that requires level 1 is par for the course.

Also, important note for everyone who's forgotten, gems gain experience at 10% of your rate.
sounds to me the exp to lvl up the gem is faster, then it will have empower stats on it when u lvl it, hope its a huge grind to lvl it aswell

Looks like it has nothing to do with exp on player or other gems. So that's good :D
So...

- It's a Red Gem which means that it could be Strength-based
- It needs to be leveled up before you can use its effect
- Quality just speeds up the leveling process
- The EXP requirements are ridiculously high
- The effect will become available mostly to high level players judging by the EXP needed
- Seeing how it is and how it works, I'm guessing it'll be drop-only as well
- The Undying Grapplers have something called Empowered as one of their innate abilities but I'm not sure if it's related to this gem's effect

Eh...not sure what to make of this one... Maybe it's something that boosts all of the effects on the Active Skill Gem? That would make sense because it would be really powerful and seeing what a grind-fest it will be to get its effect to activate, I wouldn't be surprised.
its a gcp sink

i was close to sell my 15 gcp in stash but i think i just changed my mind

So if i fly over to NZ, drop by the studio, say hi, and then fly back to Brisbane, I get a frog pet?
POE is a constantly evolving game, so expect balance changes, buffs and nerfs STILL!

What if the effects are something completely different, and when leveled give bonus xp to the player if you kill with linked skill. Basically it would make sense in a certain way. Given the high xp requirement of the gem you would only get any benefit of it at lvl 70 or something close, so it would make easyer to lvl up a new toon to experiment with new build. That way first time players would have to grind legit and veterans would have an advantage if they decide to level a new toon. That would certainly encourage people to explore new builds and go again and again through content.
Empower can't possibly give exp to either other gems or player.
Empower means - to give POWER. One would assume that it would give plain power increase of damage or buff-effect or smth like that.
Something more interesting would be a total morph of an effect of a gem to something along the lines but MORE POWERFUL :D
WHERE IS THE PVP?
