Had part of it downloaded, got something to eat and came back to an error msg about a skeleton file. Now restarting to d/l and hope it makes it past whatever caused the error last time.

" I shudder at the thought what would happend if I'd just mirror the file after the download. I hope that my 2Gbit pales in comparison. And no, I cannot spare all my bandwidth lol. Also, unless everybody stops downloading right now except a few chosen ones, I doubt anyone will finish the download any time soon. Bye guys! |

" The problem is that at these slow speeds for everybody, everybody will finish all at once after all having been stuck at the same slow speeds the entire time. A priority or queue system of some sort to cycle people through at fast speeds would be better. Then each person finishing can free up bandwidth for the rest of the people in line. The total time for everyone to finish won't change (can't easily change max bandwidth or total amount of the files to be downloaded), but the average user's wait to actually be in game will be reduced if we let the segment of people who are actually downloading get faster speeds by making other people wait. Namely, with a queue the average user's wait time will be half as long, with the worst case scenario being the last person in line having no longer of a wait, and the lucky person in front being able to rush through at their max download speed. [Edit for clarity: I'm stylizing here a bit, basically pretending that everyone is going to be trying to download at once, and no one is starting/stopping their downloads as we go. But the real situation is close enough to that for it to be helpful to describe it that way.] Last edited by Sayyid#1990 on Aug 20, 2013, 7:40:46 PM
