BS. Blood magic is a bonus from the item itself. You take off the item and you lose the bonus. Its not brain surgery.
That's what noobs like you don't understand. You DO lose Blood Magic if you take off the item.

If this was considered an Exploit, it should have been fixed a long time ago. I was under the impression it was intended and that is the only reason such items had some value. Now, they are just another set of uniques you can vendor for alchemy shards (at best).
Had I known this was not intended, I wouldn't have made two of my 85+ chars build require the use of these items. I have a 2H Marauder that reserves all mana (only achievable by using Alpha Howl) and then replacing with Bringer of rain with blood magic gem. Now, that build is destroyed.
My ranger is a dagger crit ranger that not only uses Alpha to reduce mana reserve and then swap to bringer of rain, but also uses Prism Guardian to get Andger Wrath and Grace then swap shield. I want to see you try play end-game as Melee without Purity and Determination... especially as a Ranger that cannot get Elemental Adaptation.
Two of my 3 end-game characters are now destroyed... I feel a passive reset, at least, is deserving after having allowed Alpha/Malachai/Covenant to work like they have for so long. This is the FIRST TIME I play a game where something considered an "exploit" doesnt get fixed right away. Yeah... keep on rolling microtransactions, you sure got time for them, but not to fix "exploits"
GGG said a long time ago, even before Onslaught/Anarchy that they were exploits. The reason they weren't fixed is that they would have to change game mechanics. It's really your fault for building your character around an exploit/being uninformed.
Edit: I also use Alpha's and Covenants but I can survive onslaught without them. If your character cant work without abusing an obvious exploit you might have a big problem.

This is not an elitist statement, by any means, but the only people I see ecstatic about these changes are players who do not experience end game content on a daily basis.
What does exploiting a game mechanic have to do with end-game content? There are a lot of people who play games without doing this and end up just fine.
Given that this is a beta, things are apt to change at a whim as they should to fix problems that arise.

Many people will sell gear and quit the game after the patch. Looks like POE = End Of Patch. "Good JOB"

AFAIK, they never used the word exploit with regard to Covenant/Simula.

The aura casted by blood magic from Covenant and Smula still exist after you switched them in town.

If they are "fixing" alpha's howl.....why don't they fix gem swapping as well? what's the difference in alpha's howl, and swapping out a reduced mana after casting aura's with it?
and i do think a lot of people are discouraged at this "fix". personally i am, check my playtime the last few days...i'm going to lose about 2.5k dps from not having hatred, and am going to need to either: level up a few times (i'm 83 so takes a bit of time) to put enough points into -% reserved, or take them out now and lose health since my build is min-maxed (and i play onslaught, having less health = not cool). i don't know what to do.
everyone who says this "fix" is fine etc, plays on standard league or anarchy - no one who is intelligent will be using alpha's howl now, it's just not worth it over a decent rare helm.
just think about who is going to be using alpha's howl in ons/hc?
CI = nope, need es from helm
BoR = nope, impossible to use
Health Based = No health on item, lots of health you are going to be missing out on, for not enough incentive (how are you going to make up 350+ hp with just +2 aura's and 8% less reserved?)
alpha's howl = standard/anarchy only item. shouldn't even be able to drop in hc/ons

Is this the longest thread ever in the PoE forums? lol
EDIT: No, it's not - by a long shot. :-)
