I'll give a clue to everyone about the last unique (this is NOT coming from GGG or from the alpha board, it's just something I thought up).
Veil of the night is likely a Laz produced items.
Laz made a lot of items upgradable (in his d2 mod) by killing something under the right condition.
Veil of steel is a reference to diablo (NOT diablo 2)
Read the flavor text
following these tips i made some researches
the flavor of the item says: "The seeds of greatness are planted in darkness
Are watered by suffering
Tended by desperation
And bloom steel flowers of victory."
In d1 we havve a farmer (seeds?) that need help in the farmer's orchard quest.
Text from diablowiki:
Spoiler
Lester the Farmer is a new NPC added in Hellfire. He can be found in the pasture near the cows. Lester asks your character to do him a favor, and to blow up a strange hive-like eruption in the ground that's blocking his cows from walking to another pasture. He gives you a rune bomb for this purpose, and when dropped on the spot by the new bridge east of town it explodes and creates an entrance to the Hive level.
Characters must be level 15, or have moved into the Cave levels (dungeon level 9) before Lester will give them the bomb.
D1-auric-amulet.gif
Once the bomb has gone off successfully, return to Lester and he will drop the Auric Amulet, an item added in Hellfire. It's worn in the amulet slot, and doesn't provide any stat bonuses, but does allow your character to carry 10,000 gold per slot (up from 5,000 in Diablo) when the amulet is equipped. This makes it possible to save more gold from one game to the next, and to purchase items that take up 6 spaces in the inventory (such as full plate mail) that cost more than 170,000 gold. (This was impossible in Diablo, since the game required you to have enough free space to hold the item you were buying, even if all your gold was going to go away in the transaction.)
The Auric amulet can be sold for 25 gold to Adria.
To receive the bomb to complete the quest you need to be lvl 15 or have gone through the cave.
Based on these what i tried (but failed) was, while wearing the helm :
1) full clear the old Waterfall CAVES (new caverns, act2): i had different clues about this. First the old name (caves , like in the d1 quest), second the flavor text: planted in darkness (the place is very dark and even more with -40 light radius), watered by suffering (waterfall caves are rich of water) , tended by desperation ("Two thousand years of regret." is the flavor text of the caves). Didn't work though
2) kill Orchard map boss.. nothing
After this failures i have focused on the Veil Of Steel from diablo 1 . It is an item obtainable by bringing a "golden elixir" to Lachdanan , to save him from a terrible curse. So i tried to sell to vendors:
1) divination distallate + helm - fail
2) random "of warding" flask + helm - fail
3) each and all togheter unique flasks + helm - fail
can you try to wear the helmet before vaal ruins 2(before unleashinng the Darkness upon the land) and keep it on until you kill vaal? preferably on normal difficulty
"The seeds of greatness are planted in darkness
Are watered by suffering
Tended by desperation
And bloom steel flowers of victory."
The seeds of greatness are planted in darkness - Definitely Vaal related. Are watered by suffering - Merveil? Watered by suffering... didn't she lose her husband or such before she went fishlady? Tended by desperation - Brutus let himself be changed in desperation. This one seems most sure to me. The storyline makes it very clear Brutus did what he did out of desperation. And bloom steel flowers of victory. - This one loses me.
"Witty remark."

I'd say line 1 is Veil of the Night, line 2 is Crown of Thorns, line 4 is the resulting item and line 3 seems like it might be Springleaf but I can't really think of a good fit for line 3.

interesting idea. Wonder if you just need to kill all the major bosses in the game while wearing it......

That's what I'm about to try, through all 3 difficulties.
I needed to level a Duelist and Temp for my achievement anyways.
Maybe the next time I link that, it'll be something else.
