Unique Item List - 300 of 419
The conversation is about using that level 22 item in Merciless, so, you know. Talking about late/endgame is fair at that point.

" Well, I mean eye of chayula, facebreakers ~ meginord's ~ pillar of the caged god, lazhwar stone, the searing touch, redbeaks, and iiQ/iiR unique items are shining examples of low level items that are perfectly capable of adding tremendous amounts of efficiency to most niche and some not-so-niche builds that have reached end-game. This really isn't a good item for new-comers without sparkling twink gears who could just as easily pay 1chaos for a Goldrim instead of Veil of Night or reach +60% resists on self-found gear playing-through to merciless. The only synergy Veil of Night really has is the ability to use Immortal Flesh due to the fact that the downsides of Immortal Flesh are completely outdone by Veil of Night's downsides ? ....high block/spell block would be the only way to survive, and I'M pretty sure this item's only REAL use over all other uniques is for Max spell block+Extreme Armor Stacking Aegis Aurora users to boast about their ability to use this item without dying, and even then I'm not so sure that they would be able to survive something like Dominus' Hand of God aoe if it managed to find it's way through that 75% spell block with 0 resistances. Maybe if they come out with Act4 and it reduced resistances by 150%... otherwise.. there absolutely must be a way to upgrade this item, as it very apparently pays homage to a very awesome elite unique diablo item called Veil of Steel (which also had a Great Helmet base in D1 that gave +50% to all resists, +60% max in diablo 2, and +100% max in diablo 3 (or so i'm told)) ... " Okay so yeah, maybe it's a low life=low resist recipe kind of thing: Veil of Night (could =Seed of Darkness) Shav's Wrappings (low-life enabling** item= Seed of Darkness) Crown of Thorns (low life pain attunement Jesus/martyr theme = watered by suffering) Redbeak, Rusted Sword (low life "As battle calms, blood turns to rust." = watered by suffering) Last Resort, Nailed Fist (low-life claw "Desperate times demand desperate measures." = tended by desperation) Tended by desperation could also mean wrapping all the items with a border of Albino Rhoa Feathers, since tended could mean guarded and people are very desperate to find a recipe for the Feathers :T idk~ As for Blooming Steel Flowers of Victory... This could be the result of the recipe OR It could also be a skill that benefits greatly from some of the listed items above ;] "Ethereal Knives" Steel Flowers(steel flowers ~ shurikens ~ knives) [although ethereal implies that the knives are made specifically of other-worldly materials and not "steel"] ~just a conspiring thought. Any other spell benefits from the items mentioned, apart from last resort. ... Last edited by Do_odle#4912 on Dec 29, 2013, 12:17:38 AM

If the veil of the night was tied to the missing unique, and it's flavor text was a clue, this would be my take on it.
"The seeds of greatness are planted in darkness" Meaning the recipe requires it placed in the veil. "Are watered by suffering" Cast when damage taken "Tended by desperation" Cast on death "And bloom steel flowers of victory." The end result Now if I remember correctly you can't vendor a item with gems in it? If that is the case it might require the gems in the veil then use some form of currency on it. Else it's sold with the gems out if the veil. |

There is only one time in the entire game when it is dark. Right around lvl 22 as well

I think Veil of Night might be interesting to use with a high life/block+MoM build of some sort. I still can't say if it'll actually be enough to offset the 0% resistances, but surely there has to be a build that can do it. MoM might sort of make up for the fact that you have no resistances by giving you that 30% reduction, but who knows. I would say Cloak of Defiance, but then you lose life on your chest and I think life is of paramount importance.

I like how everyone assumes that this unique has to be a part of some kind of recipe because of it's stats.

"Exactly. This whole recipe notion involving Veil is rather stupid, imo. The flavour text is poorly written and does not seem like it hides any secrets in any possible way. Someone suggested that maybe the item is tied to the 5th unique, which is not absurd or out of the realm of possibility, and people are just taking that thought to the extreme without any real basis. GGG said the base item for the 5th unique would probably be discovered within a few hours of patch release. Speculating over some non-existent secret recipe in the flavour text of a random unique doesn't really coincide with GGG's hunch. |

" The speculation may not be as far-fetched as you may think. There was a unique in the old Diablo 1 named Götterdämmerung (Gods' Dusk, or Gods' Twilight) which had basically the same stats as the Veil of the Night - high defense but sets your resists to zero. It was a great helmet. There was also another great helmet named Veil of Steel which had similar stats but it also had 50% resist all. So the idea to create Veil of Steel out of Veil of Night via some hidden recipe isn't that difficult to swallow. The flavour text does clearly point this out: take the Darkness (Veil of the Night), add some stuff (?) and you'll bloom steel flower of victory (Veil of Steel). EDIT: Great helmet, not spired. That was D2. Last edited by Tojejedno#6312 on Dec 29, 2013, 8:12:27 AM

" apart from what the above poster said, veil of night WAS discovered within hours of the patch notes. so if veil of the night is part of a recipe, GGG is spot on in that "the base item" was discovered within hours |
