GGG stance on "Mules" (Multi-Boxing to store gear, improve exp and loot drops)
|
If you have a real 6-man party, 6 people are vying for loot. In an artificial 6-man party, 1 person gets it all to himself.
In a real party, players are close in level and get similar shares of xp. In an artificial party with 1 high-level character and 5 low-level characters, the 1 person gets a vast majority of the xp to himself. That's why it's an exploit. There's nothing detrimental to legitimate play in locking difficulties to certain levels. A level 1 character can't get to Merciless legitimately, so why should it be allowed? This is why we can't get awesome quest rewards: because it's too easy to rush characters to farm rewards. Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus. First in the credits! So if you group with 5 friends and get fed all the items it's an exploit too? In real ladder rush this will happen. People will get supported by others and fed gear they otherwise wouldn't get.
If you get an aura character and dual box to support you in content you couldn't beat solo it's an exploit too? Everything you don't do seems to be an exploit from my view. People play the game differently than you so why don't you try and understand people want to enjoy it differently rather than just trying to take away from what they're allowed to do simply because you don't do it. If your character is strong enough that he can clear content with dead weight making it more difficult than your character can blast through regular content so fast it doesn't even make a difference. If quest rewards were awesome you could just setup twink gear to power level characters if the rewards are anywhere near worth it, this is probably another exploit though. The low level characters make the content more difficult and without even adding any help. Doing something more difficult should have a better reward, that's obvious isn't it? If I want to play with a friend and rush him through the difficulties why shouldn't I be able to? There isn't even anyway to power level it more easily at higher difficulties either. Just because you don't do it doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to. Last edited by rwk#4637 on Jul 21, 2012, 2:44:26 PM

" So if I want to beat the game and have all uniques in 1 minutes and beat everybody with 1 clock why I shouldnt be able to?Just because you don't do it doesn't mean I shouldn't be able to. |

" Fantastic straw man. If this was third grade that would be clever. Let's add time restrictions then since some players spend more time others others and everything isn't totally equal. You can't have any type of advantage otherwise it's like using hacks to hit level 100 and creating perfect items. Logic~
"No, because that involves 5 other people choosing to give you items. "Yes, absolutely. How is that not cheating? If you put those auras on your main character so he could support himself, it's not cheating. Giving yourself a secondary mana pool to use auras is a cheat. "I don't see how this is about me at all. There are tons of things I don't do in PoE that aren't cheats. Liking exploits doesn't mean they're not exploits. "If you're talking about twinking characters so they can play the game normally and get quest rewards, that's not an exploit because those characters are actually playing the game instead of skipping it by being carried by another character. "Yes. I specifically stated that this is a goal of the map system. Players who want more challenge can modify their maps to be more challenging, and those maps will offer better rewards. "Out of curiosity, what reason would you have for doing that? Talk about straw men. You put all sorts of words into my mouth that I didn't say. Closed Beta/Alpha Tester back after a 10-year hiatus. " Let's say you need to be level 45 to enter merciless. Even if it requires level 45 if the person has the resources to even get 5 additional characters to merciless to begin with nothing will stop them from getting 5 level 45s to mule. If they're capable of solo clearing 6 player content and it's worthwhile for leveling or items to do it and they're going to outpace your character and ability to reach them regardless of if you try and limit them or not. You seem to be continually downplaying how ungodly powerful their theoretical character is since they can clear 6 play content solo at the end stage of the game solo. You act like this is somehow an easily doable thing and it just allows so many "exploits" which are unfair. If their character can even do it to begin with it's already beyond your standards of fair to begin with. "It's not cheating since it isn't using an exploit or hack to do something others can't do. Anyone can do it if they've got the resources to. It requires them to have leveled another character, equipped them with gear, and be able to maneuver two characters. Dual-boxing isn't cheating to anyone with sense. If you're allowed to play with others and getting their help them there's no reason why you aren't allowed to puppet two characters to support each other. " Just because it's one option doesn't mean you should try and petition to eliminate others. " Since I can and it gives them the option to level in areas they want when they decide to level rather than be forced to grind in the specific area they're supposed to to advance. You can also join groups other in areas and simply kill rather than worry about quests. The gem rewards are another benefit. Even if you try and limit this it'll still be done and there's nothing wrong with it. It's simply your attempt to puppeteer what others are allowed to do with arbitrary limitations for things which aren't even relevant towards game design or balance. I take that back, it probably won't be done if you try hard enough because people who'll do it won't even bother playing the game to begin with since if they wanted to get their every ability to play a game restricted they'd just play D3 where Blizzard Gods control when mortals are allowed to jump and they've got much more practice at it. Using multis are exploits. Period.
Additional reasons: #1 Ladder advantage. Whether you care or not "but but I play for the funz", whether unintentional or not. If you use a multi(s), you would be reasonably assumed to be attempting to game the ladder, the onus is on you to prove otherwise. #2 Gold farming. to expand whiteboy's reason about keeping all the good stuff to oneself. Gee, all that lo0t. All that effort to maintain. Most reward for the least effort. You would be reasonably assumed to have a ulterior and/or financial motive. Now try worming out of these. Rwk's comment " This is such a fail. Rush him through the content. Yeah, I help my brother, we clear the content together, I have more powerful gear, and he reach moc at level 49. The way you say it I would assume you are rushing him through the content, until the enemies are well over his level, so his exp gain deteriorates as well. It sounds like you're just teleporting him conveniently with town portals at the relevant waypoints and compulsory quests while he, erm, plays Freecell and waits for your signal to teleport in. POE is a constantly evolving game, so expect balance changes, buffs and nerfs STILL!

Why not make it so there are wide restrictions on levels? something that someone would never be able to hit on their own. Say; 30 for merciless, and +1 for each quest progression in merciless Somewhere around level 45 to do maps.. This way a person dedicated to the idea of "multi-boxing" will be able to do it. This will prevent the method from being used in races; and will reduce the number of people who would abuse this system.
I agree that someone able to solo the content of a 6 man party is very good at the game; and must have worked hard to get there. If they work hard enough to get 5 level 45 characters on 5 accounts; then I think it would be well earned, and reduce the total number of players doing this -minimizing the economic reprecautions. |

" And? I can name a lot more ways to get advantages you won't get when laddered is played. Simply when others play longer hours than you is the most simple one. Since you mention your brother I'm sure you don't mind having him play your character and level you during ladder though. That's totally fair though and not an exploit.... Right? Lol " How is clearing 6 player content on the hardest difficulty solo less effort? You had a brain fart when you thought this out. " Thanks for your worthless opinion about how I choose to play. I don't care what you do with your brother, keep it to yourself. I'm done with this. If GGG wants to randomly limit what people are allowed to do then it's their choice and simply speaks about what direction this game will head. Heading their earlier is better for everyone involved.
" Me too. |
