Five macros that will make your life easier

I hate when video game players talk about laziness. We play the game to have fun, not to work in it. I am against extensive macros too, but these simple text command macros are really OK. The exit and portal thing is GGG's fault anyway, they could easily put the countdowns we know from cutthroat leagues to other leagues, but they chose not to (I have no idea why).
Players will always find ways to play more effectively, hating them for it is silly. ✠ ✠

the use of any form of automation should be a banable offense
more isboxer than this guy, but the principle is the same |

lets take /oos first as the most important 'automation' script;
" ...not neccessary to keep your viability up. Sadly, the actual situation is, that there are so MASSIVE and FREQUENT desync "loopbacks" that I see no excuse not to use the command - and clearly its also not practicable to type it manually while fighting in difficult situations that demand /oos - not even as you can recall your last command instead of typing it new each time. Additionally: I can understand and (to some degree) accept that monsters may move out of sync - but its kind of hilarious how far MY OWN char can move while I stand still, sometimes my own position differs a half screen and more from where I should be... take /itemlevel: what does it do worth considering a ban, beside saving some time with a non-gamebreaking feature? It doesnt 'automate' any (really) game-related aspect of your char (like controlling your movement or using flasks would do) To me, automation starts with programmed behaviour, interaction with informations taken out from the game (example: checking the health level and start actions based on that). This also includes interaction with any positioning information, so also stash/trade handlings etc. These (may) do not (directly) influence the gameplay, but since there's no possibility to differ what such an intrusion really (all) did, let open no room for tolerance. invited by timer @ 10.12.2011

" It doesn't matter where you think automation "starts"; anything that a program does that used to be done manually, is "automation" per definition. What kind of "automation" you find and do not find acceptable is a different matter. Also, out of curiosity: why do you draw the line for what automation you find acceptable based on whether or not it automatically extracts information from the client? It is a technical line, but this is a matters of ethics, so what is your ethical reason for drawing the line there? This message was delivered by GGG defence force.

I use /oos command tied to my side mouse button. Saved me multiple times, all 3 previous (60+) characters I flushed to default died due to desyncing in a tough situation (pack of charging skele rhoas, snakes in dread thicket, puncture mobs), if I had known of the command I would probably not be dead in at least 2 of 3 cases.
Give me a break with 'ethics' arguments... Save them for RMTers, botters and multiboxers. There is no validity to the argument whatsoever. Desync was never meant to be a part of game experience. Anyone can set up a macro, it is not forbidden nor it should be. If anything, the immediate /oos command should be tied to a key in game by default, but since the game is in beta and the issues will hopefully be resolved by launch I can see why the devs don't want to waste time to add a feature that will most likely become obsolete soon. I got a /itemlevel macro on my razer naga. Saves me so much time to get a quick check of it's item level (especially in 72+ maps, for backtracking ilvl 74/75 items).
And on my logitech G510, I got 2 rows of /oos keybinded. Is really helpful, especially as melee. Other then that, I don't need any more macros. |
