Australian Test Gateway Feedback (Updated)
Thanks for the feedback, guys! We've been talking with the server host since yesterday about the lag spikes and they're looking into it. As far as we can see, data to/from the server just stalls every now and then.
That's why we have it in testing like this - so that we can make sure it works properly before going ahead with the plan. We'll let you know as soon as we have an update. | |
Glen Eden, Auckland with Orcon Genius, could only play for an hour or so last night but the improvement in performance was phenominal, solid 65ms down from ~250ms and apart from the occasional lag spikes already being investigated everything felt extremely smooth.
As others have mentioned it just makes the game feel extremely more responsive overall, all the little things like id'ing items / socketing gems etc. not to mention the fact that mobs were dying as my attack animation hit them rather than after a pause made it almost felt like a different game. Great stuff guys |

GGG
I did experience some issues when competing in the event: "SO2E128" Order of events: - logged on to Australian server. - created my intended main character for the event, a ranger: "Kaysee_TwoEight" - created a mule character, a shadow: "Kaysee_Mule" - realised I created the mule in the "default" league... deleted the character and recreated for the event. - logged out to login screen and back in to game ready for the event. - started the event with the shadow ("Kaysee_Mule") and killed Hillock... so far so good. ISSUES - entered into Lionseye Watch, but couldn't move on entering, stuck in place. - logged to login screen. - character could now move around LW, but could interact with anything: NPCs, Stash, exit to Terraces. - Logged to login and tried again... still nothing. - ditched "Kaysee_Mule" and logged in with main event character: "Kaysee_TwoEight" - killed Hillcock and entered LW. - when running from LW entrance towards steps to main NPC area (ie past the Portal zone) my character kept rubberbanding back to entrance. - It did this about 5-7 times... I couldn't progress any further. - Logged to login screen and re-entered again with "Kaysee_TwoEight" - (memory is a bit hazy here, was rushing to race), but I think again I couldn't interact with NPCs - Logged to login and changed to SG server. - appeared in the middle of LW and everything seemed back to normal... even managed to place #5 for the Rangers, my best finish so far (although the competition was light on :D ). My testing results are majorly positive. South East Melbourne, TPG, 32ms solid. I suffered from the same stoppages and lag that other people were experiencing. I still had a bit of delay when zoning, but only when the instance was created for the first time.
Anywhere from 2-4 seconds to enter the zone if the instance was being newly created, and absolutely instantaneous transitions if zoning into an old instance. If there was any way to further reduce the time of the initial zoning upon instance creation, this would literally be a 10/10 experience for Aussie players. Fantastic job, GGG! Hey guys
Got a chance to use the Australian Gateway last night It was an improvement from my normal 200-250 ping from the SG gateway Im getting about 100-130 ms on the Aussie gateway, I am in Melbourne and on TPG ADSL2+ I was expecting the ping to be a little lower then that being an east side AUS gateway and all Can anyone else post what theirs is and their ISP/location please? Is mine normal ? IGN: mrtypr

Physical Location: Sunshine Coast, QLD, Aus
ISP: iiNet (ADSL 1, 8MB) US Gateway : ~200-250 ms Singapore Gateway : 190-210 ms Australian Gateway : ~50 ms Needless to say, I'll be using the Aussie gateway from now on! Was great to play without any delay between attack animation and actual hits as well as immediate loot drops (was usually a noticeable delay). Play felt a lot more fluid and more importantly, had a noticeable faster pace. I did not notice any lag spikes but I was only on briefly. Great job GGG! " run a tracert to see if your packets are being routed strangely. (I had issues with the DNS servers my ISP originally told me to use) when I had reset them i went from ~200ms to ~50ms latency from NZ to the Australia gateway. |
