REMOVE XP DEATH PENALTY

Get better at the game. It should stay and hopefully it does as a skill check for those wanting to push levels. People like you who want everything given to them are bad for the game.

Oh and they agree you should just get better, as they stated in multiple interviews.

Its called practice and helps a ton. Spend some time actually getting better, rather than just staying at your low skill level. You would enjoy the game much more.

I will admit that I am not a top tier POE player. I just an old ass Gen X who enjoys spending 300+ hours on an unfinished game that has some issues. That being said, I am not a scrub. "Git Gud" has and always will be the worst response to any forum topic since the internet was invented. (I was there, I know)

I simply ask that the XP lost is limited to the XP gained on the map that I died on. Why set me back hours when I am already playing for as long as life will allow me?

Anyone fighting this doesn't have issues dying anyway and it wont effect them at all.
Get better or find a new game. Crying because you want to just be handed lvl 100 for playing ruins the whole point of the game. Every level after 70 is ment to mean something and feel like an achievement. Just being able to throw time at it even if you live through 1 out of 5 maps and still get to the end goal is clownery. The level achieved is the check point. You get to keep your pick ups and in time maybe get better or be able to afford better gear etc until you can survive. That's the point of the game, it's a skill check and why many of us play the game. If you just want to be spoon fed lvl 100 maybe D4 is more your pace. Personally I wish there was a progression past lvl 100 and they started taking inventory in the areas that allowed you to progress past that along with the xp. The people who cry about the XP loss are not the same people who spend thousands of hours on the game. Y'all are temporary players and are just salty because you want to reach the 100 and move on to the next game.

Unfortunately, the design mantra of PoE led to a lot of players getting used to, and even making excuses for a game that ends up wasting thousands of hours of their time.

This seems to be continuing in PoE 2. Instead of adding in content that challenges you. They punish you for deaths in a game full of random one shots.

I would like for it to at least have an option to turn it off. My goal when I play games is to have a good time. The game can teach me with positive reinforcement, and smaller frustations to get good at it. But something like this mechanic has me wanting to quit instead.

I value my time in games. PoE does not value your time.
Why does your enjoyment of the game revolve around you being handed lvl 100 just for logging time in? What does not having lvl 100 prevent you from doing in the game? The answer is nothing. You can pretty well access every skill and area even if you are so poor at the game you can barely get past lvl 70. So it's not about playing the game it's about you wanting the precieved final achievement handed to you.

I want to finish my character (my build) and I can't. Death penalty is too much. I get one shoted or stun locked randomly.

I decided to change my gear. I halfed my damage to get full defense to stop dying and get xp. I'm still dying from time to time. And this dying from time to time is setting me back. I didn't get any xp for a week :D

This is a joke.

Please think about casual players. You could introduce some penalty of not getting some exp. But losing exp is insulting.
I like tough gameplay. This game challenges me already - I have my shitty build.
I do 10 maps and have fun. Then I die once and I'm back to the starting point.

I don't know why some people here get so offensive. Everyone want to enjoy this game. If you like being challenged get a job. Or wife.

We have enough penalties. Setting back the XP is just a waste of my time. I don't mind losing the map or the loot that wasn't picked up. At least throttle it back so it's just the XP you gained in that map.

I just died. I don't know what hit me, but the notification said that I committed suicide. Map gone, loot gone, XP gone, motivation to play gone.

Does that stop the xp loss and the motivation issues behind losing progress?

Devs, cut it out with the death penalty.

Seriously, grinding for like 20 minutes on a map to get one shot by something that isnt even on the screen.

Also, did 3 rare runestones and not a single waystone drop and did a much lower waystone and got one normal low waystone drop.

Is this game about punishing the fan base or is it funny to watch all of that progress get destroyed?
-1, I think.

I find the loss of xp frustrating but I also understand why it exists. The goal isn't to get to lvl 100, the goal is to find a balance of passives, skills, gear and a reliable, safe combat rotation that pushes your chosen character as deep as your ingenuity will allow. The xp penalty on death is there as a build and gear check.

The downside, and it's a big one, is that the majority of players, me included, will never really feel like they have 'won" the game, they will just slowly loose interest as the barriers to progress get bigger and bigger. Most people will walk away thinking that the game has beaten them.

Unfortunately the flaws in this kind of game design philosophy are further compounded when there are plenty of instant 1 shot mechanics in the game, which makes this kind of "natural selection" feel unfairly random and highly frustrating. There is nothing worse than farming xp and then dying to who knows the hell what.

It seems to me the only players who actually succeed under these kind of conditions are those that are geniuses at working out the safest, fastest, screen-wiping, one button builds (or those that shamelessly copy them.) I suspect most players don't approach games with this kind of very specific, problem solving mentality.

So, yeah, -1 because I think I get why the xp penalty needs to be there but I hope GGG can find a more holistic solution that embraces all kinds of players, not justy those that have 100's of hours to burn researching the best builds and finding the best gear or those with so little imagination that they just want to copy those builds and dominate the game without enjoying the process of discovery along the way. They also need to sort out the insta-deaths if they insist on such a harsh penalty.
