EXP LOSS WHEN DYING IS STUPID
I think an XP penalty is fine. In my opinion, reaching the highest levels should require more from you than just playing the game, it should require you to master the game. And if you're dying enough for the XP penalty to really be a problem, you're not mastering the game. The question here is; why should a player that keeps dying over and over reach level 100?
Now, is the XP penalty perfect? No. I think it should be toned down a little bit, with increasing effect the closer you get to level hundred, making it a hurdle for the players wanting to reach max level, and not so much a hurdle for those that just want to casually push into the nineties. Sometimes, just sometimes, you should really consider adapting to the world, instead of demanding that the world adapts to you.

The circumstances of death play a significant role, making it difficult to draw definitive conclusions but at the very least, it may indicate that the game’s true enjoyment has yet to be discovered if you were pissed in a bad way.
One way to gauge progress is by assessing the balance between offensive and defensive capabilities in relation to the intended content. Once the fundamental mechanics have already been experienced, another indicator would be "how far I've made it, or how I got there". In any case, if survival is proving too difficult, starting with a build that resists death more effectively can help establish a concrete goal. Similarly, if damage output feels insufficient, experiencing what "adequate offensive power" means firsthand is essential. Everything up to this point leans toward a "power gaming" perspective. If that approach doesn’t align with personal enjoyment, it may be worthwhile to reconsider what kind of experience brings the most satisfaction. A defining feature of RPG is the variety of classes available. Exploring the entire acts with every class, including their respective ascendancies, could offer a fresh perspective :) Everything I do should be wrong so please correct me if I do it right <3 Stop Bombing Moment Joon 【Passport & Garcon】https://bit.ly/2wXiUSj MonoNeon 【Put On Earth For You】https://bit.ly/3I22mru Last edited by finisterre#5659 on Mar 16, 2025, 11:52:24 PM

" You're not entitled to leveling up, you have to earn it. If you can't play well enough to stay alive long enough to level up in the end game, you don't get to level. Git gud |

" This right here. Because the casual player normally gives up at that point and moves on to a different game. |

" It really does help to have a good understanding of how certain mechanics of the game work. Having a decent knowledge alone carries you all the way to the endgame on a shoelace ground loot budget without any trading or crazy farming at all. SSF players are a good example here as they do not have access to trade nor crazy gear day 1, but they still level up past 95 on pretty mediocre gear and interesting build choices. Same goes the other way around, as we do see a lot of players hitting a wall despite sick gear, simply cause they do lack simpe and basic knowledge. So yes, being good or bad at a game really makes a huge difference. Flames and madness. I'm so glad I didn't miss the fun.

I'd suggest 100% XP penalty from the current level or even delevel.

" Conflict of Interest is not all about "profit induction vs reverse profit induction" "there is no reason to make me feel bad" or "you don't have to tell me what to do" is not a matter of persuasion. Edit It's about "How do we describe the world ?", for example, game design. (It's rather "Code of Conduct or Conflict of Interest" debate.)
