Experience penalty when dying

I don't really think it's convoluted at all. It's really quite simple to see that some players value their time, and some don't. Some players value the thrill that the mechanic gives, and some don't. Some players derive an ego boost from the mechanic, and some simply don't care.

I see no problem with XP loss on death if people want it. I just feel it should be a choice. And I don't need ego andy's telling me how bad I am at the game because I just want to chillax in the evening after driving for 11 hours. I'm not here to perform. I just want to blow stuff up and grind out a couple max level characters, just like I do in WoW.

It's simply a matter of some people, not respecting that different playstyles exist, and they're all valid ways to play. And instead, resort to insults about how bad someone is, or how elitist the other person is. We're all just here to have fun. If more people realized this, there wouldn't be pages and pages of arguments on the forums about how there's a Correct/Incorrect way to play. There's no correct or incorrect way to play anything.

I look at it this way. Lots of game companies have a vision for their game. Lets take Skyrim for instance. Bethesda clearly crafted a detailed and meticulous game.

But then. They also added in the ability to mod the game, because they realized. Sometimes players like different things. If someone wants to play Skyrim with Thomas the Tank engine flying around and breathing fire. Well. They can do that. And it doesn't mean they're playing the game wrong. Just differently.

PoE/GGG could do the same. People don't like XP Loss? Okay. Make it optional. The game is fully capable of having different game modes/difficulties. It already has a few. If it brings in more players. It's a win. Everyone gets their slice of cake.

first of all, im not trying to insult you. if i said there's something wrong with your build, gear, etc. its because thats a bigger part of this games progression than xp is at endgame. im simply stating a fact. that doesnt make you bad. and even if you are bad at the game that doesnt make me better. i dont see where youre making these assumptions about ego. im simply stating a pawn moves like a pawn and not like a queen. thats the way the game works. theres a difference in moding skins and changing the fundamentals of a game.
i think ggg sees it the same way and i dont really see them making any major changes when it comes to xp penalties.

trust me when i say your gear makes a much bigger difference than your level if you want to be "blowing things up and chillaxing"
As many have posted and mentioned already, I don;t think GGG will remove the EXP penalty.

I do not like the EXP penalty, I keep dying during endgame and loose all of my progress and I hate it...

But I guess it is what it is. I am strating to believe that GGG will not remove the EXP penalty so I "accepted the idea"

It is what it is. It's frustrating because aside from loosing EXP, i barely get drops because I focused on my resistences , not on increased rarity drops, so I'm loosing on boths sides :)))))))

They should lower the XP loss—10% is too harsh.

To level properly, you need a long mapping win streak. At level 94, reaching 95 requires 10-20 efficient maps for 10% XP, but one death can erase that progress instantly.

It takes 0-2 hours to gain 10%, but you still can't afford to die. Even with a strong build for juiced maps, unpredictable deaths at 50% XP wiped out all my progress.

Well if we all built super giga ultra mega META chars which would wipe all the map with one click yea, those xp penalties are worthless. To craft such equipment costs hundreds of hours farming getting loot and so on. Meta classes can enjoy this game, other classes seem to struggle.

It makes the game not fun. I lose motivation to start progressing again, as the gameplay becomes unrewarding.

Doesn't really matter, I quit the game until they fix or eliminate the experience death penalty.
There is one thing that no1 is taking into account with the exp lost. And i would argue with the the hole map system in general and its how bad it works for when you are playing with someone. I starte playing this game with my couple, we both just quit yesterday.
Its really frustating that one of us dies, ok, the other has to quit the map, close, everyithing is lost, start a new 1.
Also, if someone dies more that the other it gets really infuriating about the hole level difference when all you just want to do is play a fun game with your significant other.
TLDR: Current base mode sucks for party playing. And i find no point in all the punishment in base mode, when if i want to play it challenging i can just go to play hardcore....
