Another HC player here.
Also most deaths to a single entity to the Death Ape. The 'problem' with this monster comes from a combination of things. 1) Players at the correct level not specifically building ehp are not likely to have enough ehp to survive the slam. 2) The slam is absolutely undertelegraphed for the 1-shot potential it has. Most bosses have _insane_ telegraphs for things that will 1-shot you. This has less than Miller. Also it's delayed slightly, so first time you're very likely to dodge too early and as a HC player that feels a bit off. 3) You very rarely fight him alone, if any part of your EHP is slowly recharging ES you're probably not going to be full, last time I had three rares on me when Death Ape screamed from two(ish) screens away and came to join the fray. 4) The arena is effectively random, with all kinds of tree stumps and other things around that make dodging less reliable than in 90%+ of other boss fights. It's the combination of things. Remove any two of the above and it wouldn't be The Great Killer Of Characters. No other boss has such a combination of things making it harder than most. Apart from Viper this thing is the only thing I'm afraid of at all in the campaign. And not all builds are even afraid of Viper. I've never had a char enter a3 without being afraid of this fella. |

" I think these are some good points but I actually kind of like the arena. It's pretty neat to just stumble upon a huge killer ape and since the arena matches the surrounding area it adds a bit of suspense everytime i am there. The big problem for me is a fully armored appropriate level warrior cannot survive even one smash. I like your suggestion though just 2 small things need to change. Either his arena become predictable or his damage is slightly reduced to allow a big tank to be able to take a hit if miss a dodge for what ever reason. |

I think acts just shouldn't have bosses which you simply avoid on hardcore until you massively outlevel them. For me it's the Silverfist and Blackjaw, and maybe cruel Crowbell is slightly overturned, too.

" I agree man but it's rough because the game really isn't made for hardcore. Hardcore is just a feature even if it is the only mode a bunch of people play. It's a lot easier for them to justify one shot mechanics if 90% of players can just hit a checkpoint and try again moments later. |
