Had a thought about why GGG would abandon PoE 1.

In my mind it comes down to a single person, Johnathan.

I would put money that in his contract with Tencent, he makes more money on how many players are playing PoE 2 only. Or the ratios are massively in favour of PoE 2. So much so that he is willingly abandoning PoE 1 in order to make money.

Yes this is 100% conspiratorial, but I legitimately can't see a reason why they wouldn't even give us a PoE 1 reset of an old league to sate their OG audience.

How off base do you guys think I am?

PoE 1 is free. PoE 2 EA is not. Tencent wants the money.

Don't blame Tencent for what is more easily explained by one man's desire to kill off a game he hates and cash out.
We have 0 evidence of Tencent tampering with GGG, or any of their other studios.
We have ample evidence of Jonathan Rogers and Chris Wilson hating the clearspeed meta, deterministic crafting, skill based game that poe1 became. They have always wanted to make Diablo 2 reboot. Ruthless was their idea. So was PoE2.

One is far more likely to be the cause than the other.

i think they are just too cheap to hire enough people for both games. thats what it comes down to. i dont see how taking away the 5-6 people that worked on poe1 is going to make a big impact on poe2...poe2 is still years away from being a decent product

Neither of these are likely... Jonathan may dislike PoE 1's meta but it would literally be suicide to just kill off PoE 1. This is far more likely a company that is just under some poor leadership at the moment. Making a series of bad decisions left and right. PoE 1 will die only if ppl stop playing it in the future because at this time PoE 2 can't stand on it's own legs and won't for some time.

big pharma, POE wanted to appeal to the WASD players. wish i was joking
