XP penalty tells me what to play
" In WoW, if you mount grind, you're often forced to ignore other content. If you secret grind, you often have to ignore other content. If your goal is 100 in PoE, you often have to ignore other content (or get good enough not to die to it). There is a distinct difference between working for level 100 and being asked to have it given to you while you do other things. Imagine if in WoW you could grind lower level raids/dungeons for mounts OR do top level dungeons with a 25% chance to just DROP a mount from previous dungeons for free. Doesn't make sense to have both options. Self-imposed goals like hitting level 100 should absolutely have some pushback. |
|
" There's no pushback in WoW. You don't suddenly get a cumulative -10% to dropchance for the next few hours because you died. You grind and eventually you get what you want even if you die 50% of the runs you do. |
|
" I guess that's fair, but I didn't bring up WoW. I was responding to the person who did, and your condemnation of my use of WoW in comparison kinda shows how stupid the original comparison of goals in WoW vs goals in PoE was. Fair enough. |

I like the exp loss and one portal, it does make sense to have this risk/reward type of gameplay to make it so you actually feel doing the map matters to some extent rather than going in blasting through everything without a single worry because if you die oh well just go again until you succeed. If it was no risk I think there would be complaints that it's too easy and leveling to 100 would be nothing special as well.
There are many ways to counter this and play around it. Don't do maps you can't handle save the riskier maps for when you have lvled and are at 0% exp, get omens that prevent exp loss on death etc. I am also casual but I also understand that lvling to 100 isn't suppose to be easy and I'm glad it isn't because again that wouldn't feel special achieving it. Also at lvl 93 which I am right now like you I am already at endgame endgame and I get plenty of good stuff without those 8 reminaing attribute points. Those points will barely make me much more stronger than I already am just some minor improvements which I am looking forward to and working towards which also makes getting those levels more exciting since it requires some effort/work on my part. Change your mindset a bit my friend. |

I've made it like 80% of the way through level 96 twice now and still having fun. I just keep finding really dangerous stuff to do right before I level *shrug* :D

The post I responded too was: "Why do you care so much about levels? It will take you a lot of time to get like 2-3 more levels to at least somehow notice minimal difference with your current level."
My post was simply to try to explain why a person might care about achieving level 100. That is people have goals in games. These goals don't have to reward power, and can take a long time, as for example: WoW Mount farming can take months, with no power reward and yet some people really care about it. So I'll reiterate: Perhaps, when the OP plays games he has a personal goal to achieve max level, and that is why he cares so much about it. |
|
" That is then, by definition, a personal problem. It is not the game's job to know your personal goals and deliver them. It also implies not actually wanting to achieve max level, but to be given it as a trophy. Many people have already hit 100, so it's definitely possible. If it's such a powerful goal, why not push through? |
