XP penalty tells me what to play
XP penalty and one portal is the worst mechanics I've ever seen.
I can't get how it can be fun not to play the game may way. I'm at 93 (70%) level and want to do some Breaches bosses.. But I can't! The risk of the the death is so high and I don't want to loose all my exp. How is this even possible? So we have some time after reaching a level to do some bosses and grinding for another level again. One portal is the nightmare for casual players like me. How I can learning if I get one shotted? So I spend 250 EXs for a try, got oneshotted and now what? Another 2 hours of grinding for another try? Now I used to check some vids (most of them will be from streamers with 9999m dps and "look how this boss easy is") before going to the boss fight to learn some mechanics and only after this I can make a try. You think this is the peak of the gameplay? No. I want to try, try again and get my reward after all these tries. Last bumped on Jan 28, 2025, 9:03:15 AM

" Why do you care so much about levels? It will take you a lot of time to get like 2-3 more levels to atleast somehow notice minimal difference with your current level. |
|
I know what he means i have the same problem. I only want to try bosses, when i had an level up. Leveling is hard work and i just dont want to get punished and loose this progress.
Maybe it makes no difference if i do a boss with lvl 93 or 95, but its still progress that maybe get lost. I have a lot of frustration about that, but i live with that handicap since poe 1. It seems there is nothing we can do about it. |

" World of Warcraft has many mounts, they are no different to the other mounts except they look different. Some spend hours trying to get that goal. Many games have secrets, they don't give any reward except to say I got that. Again people spend hours trying to achieve that goal. PoE2 has 100 levels, as you said, "minimal difference" for achieveing that, but again it's a goal some want to achieve. Perhaps, when the OP plays games he has a personal goal to achieve max level, and that is why he cares so much about it. |
|
" What has other game have to do to poe? Nothing. If OP care about leveling up, he should invest into defense and play carefully. Getting to level 100 or high level should require some effort you know? |
|
If OP has a personal goal to reach max level, then yes that's going to dictate how they play.
Level 100 is one of the longest restrictive grinds available, good thing it's in no way mandatory This argument should really be steered towards balance issues causing it to be a total drudge rather than attacking the core design principle which is highly unlikely to change, at least not in our favour |

"I'm sorry but how I can invest in defence with an evasion build? All res + chaos at 75, 9k evasion unbuffed, 2.2k life. But still can't faceroll 81+ lvl bosses and have a chance to get one-shotted. Don't you think this is not about investments? Levels still give benefits due to + damage for me. Your questions sounds weird tbh. Why do you need 100 divs gear since 3 exs are enough for going through the campaign |

So games are just not meant for casual gamers like they used to be this game is starting to feel like a job to get to goals.

" Once I hit level 90, I just don't care about the character level any more. It solves this problem. All you get is a few more passives and most builds treat them as an optional slot. Getting past 90 isn't giving you much. I'd rather have fun and play what I want than worry about whether I'll die if I put too much delerium in a map or my friend wants to run a simulacrum with me. You're right that they should make the XP loss less exhausting, but its not worth sweating over it. Level 90 is enough. Having fun is more important! :) |

"casual gamers" is such a red rag
There is absolutely nothing casual about this game beyond the campaign. And that's fine, if you like it you keep playing it beyond what is the norm, you are not "casual", you are now "committed", and this game has a higher commitment level than whatever it takes to get a platinum trophy in <insert game you insist on comparing this to here> |
