Here's the prime example of bots/currency sellers manipulating the market. Something really needs to be done to these kind of behavior, items are already inaccessible enough to new players.
They intentionally set the bar really high and buyout everything below, while setting a fix lower base with millions of exalts in the market to stop any price from getting listed below it(classic manipulation)
Last night alone, div:exalt ratios went from 145 to 198 in a matter of seconds. Just one month back it was around 120.
At this point it's no longer about demand and supply any longer.
PS: Your high value items are not spared either, it is all intentional manipulation. (Dream frag, temporalis, astra)
The RMT's raise the price's so it forces the player base to buy currency from their websites. It's a classic tactic.
They are part of the Taiwanese Gaming Mafia / Union and each person runs 5,000 bots each. They operate in all main MMO's.
Here’s a list of games with auction houses that prove Path of Exile 2 has no excuse:
EverQuest (1999)
Ragnarok Online (2002)
Final Fantasy XI (2002)
EVE Online (2003)
World of Warcraft (2004)
Final Fantasy XIV (2010)
ArcheAge (2013)
The Elder Scrolls Online (2014)
Black Desert Online (2016)
Albion Online (2017)
These games span decades and offer player-driven trading systems that are accessible and functional.
Meanwhile, Path of Exile relies on outdated trade methods that force players to use third-party tools.
How is this acceptable in 2025?
If developers could figure this out over 20 years ago, there’s no reason PoE 2 can’t have an auction house.
This isn’t about “philosophy”; it’s about refusing to modernize because they cater to the RMT's that dominate the current trade system and market.
Grinding Gear Games, take note—this is long overdue.
Why Do People Oppose Auction Houses? Follow the Money...
the people most vocally against auction houses in games like Path of Exile often have something to gain from manipulating and exploiting the current system.
The trading process allows for:
1. Price Manipulation: Without a transparent, centralized system, scammers can inflate or deflate prices through market collusion. They prey on inexperienced players who don’t know the fair value of items.
2. Exploiting Frustration: Many players don’t have time for endless trade whispers or haggling. This frustration is exploited by individuals who lowball desperate sellers and resell items for massive profit margins.
3. Gatekeeping New Players / Casuals: The complexity of manual trading acts as a barrier, keeping less experienced players from participating in the economy. This ensures that veterans or "market sharks" maintain their dominance.
4. Third-Party Tools and RMT (Real Money Trading): Some of these individuals rely on third-party tools or even real-money trading. A proper auction house would cut into their shady operations by making trading transparent and accessible to everyone.
An auction house can mitigate these opportunities for exploitation.
Transparent pricing and convenient access level the playing field, benefiting the majority while eliminating the advantages scammers and cheats currently enjoy.
Anyone fighting against that probably has something to lose on the black market.

Happens every PoE league. excuse is always supply and demand.
people play for about 3-6 weeks cause everything feels good. Good game, good trade prices people enjoy the game at this time over any other.
then prices start going up. People quit till next league start. So less players more expensive supply gets. If prices are this high means you hit the mark that over 1/2 the pop left the game waiting for a reset.
another reason we need a better trade system keep players active longer.
PoE 2 player base continues to decline every day.

@Snorkle_uk#0761
iam actually sorry, i did not see the > sign, you are 100% correct
all good its an easy mistake to make m8. im playing self found atm so ive never used the currency exchange, i only know how that bit functions cause other people have made the same mistake and posted it.
and lets be real, its not 4 million, but there are bots and bot farms that have yet to be detected and they will have a shitload of currency. possibly spread over many accounts that perform automated trades for dummy items to move the currency to and from seller accounts etc. it must be happening weve all seen the orb selling chat spam.
I love all you people on the forums, we can disagree but still be friends and respect each other :)

Chris said that it makes you feel all mushy and good inside if you scout for an item 50 hours on trade :))...Makes you feel like the 1 exalted item you buy feels like it was worth it...So yea, no auction house in the future...

No its not. Other people have explained it very well in the thread, and as others have pointed out we see this in poe1 also with chaos orbs.
"So less players more expensive supply gets."
But supply is relatively the same, it does not change because of less players since the demand also shifts.

I don't understand what you are talking about!
POE 2 already has an Auction House for currency (you even posted a screen shot).

To OP: The prices you circled is everybody trying to buy divines for less than 186 exalts, that even includes players that wanted to buy divines for 10 exalts at the very beginning. Even players not currently playing anymore.
The reason the price of divines rising is most likely because of the patch that increased loot, and the fact that more players want divines over exalts now than before.

Those games do not have random items like in path of exile.
For example in WoW there is a specific chest armor for a class so everybody is selling the same armor with the same stats on it, and everybody wants that specific chest armor.
In path of exile you can have a chest armor listed for many days before anyone wanting to bid/buy for it shows up, because it might only be something a single person / a very few people wants.
